this is looking lika a very good game by the day, although i would have thought the whole concept of having the game in the setting it is (school environment) will prolly mean it will be a tad limited and wont be half as long lasting as GTA was, but never underestimate the Rockstar peeps, simply just for the kinda rabbits they pull outta thier hats, and this one seems to be no different. is anyone actually interested in this game or its just me?, maybe ur still trying to make up ur minds? heres some pics to help you do that.. Btw its out on the 16th Oct. ;) :mrgreen:

I am not one to hop onto my soapbox regarding game content, and I have never said anything against the GTA series, however this game is over stepping the mark in my opinion.

This game is in very very bad taste as the age of the characters in the game are kids. Ok so they maybe teenagers but to be based in a school environment to me makes them kids. With all the recent stabbings and shootings at schools in real life, this game is in very poor taste.

I know the difference between real life and a game, however there are far too many people who don't. We can get into the age debate as much as you want but under 18's will be playing this game. I was fortunate to never be bullied, however it is a very serious subject and I think Rockstar are making a mockery of it.

Anyway...thats enough of that!

I didn't know this game was being developed until I read this thread, and now I'm looking forward to it... :D

Anyway, I must agree with LemonJelly that this game is not the kind of political correct game, besides all the bad behaviours it may lead some teenagers to do...

If it's violent, easy, put an 18 on it.

Are there many stabbings and shootings in the UK? Never heard of it. Usually it's in the US, maybe because there's more media coverage.

Well, centuries ago it was the bible, then movies, pornography, now it's videogames... If the parents did their job, there wouldn't be a problem.

I was aware of this game and was really looking forward to it, I didn't realise that it was due October so that is a plus. Looking forward to it, relive some school day antics.

Yeah exactly tbh, i dont buy into all that "bad influential" nonesense (not to be rude), if a product, (whatever it may be), is slated under a certain age group, i strongly believe that it's because people at that age have a matured mind state of dealing with the entertainment aspect of such products and not conflicting it with real life, in other words watching a superman movie and straight away jumping into your curtain drapes and trying to float for 3 seconds while rescuing ur little sister from the deadly couch :lol: :lmao:, from what i've read i cant remember where now, i think the game is rated 18 or something so imo all it should be is an entertaining game, end of....
i understand where lemonjelly's coming from, but i feel that if parents go to extreeme lenghts to make sure thier kids under the age limit on the box , dont go ahead and purchase the game, it wont stop or hinder the efforts going into anti-bullying and what not, because the majority of people that'll be playing it'll prolly be in uni or something ;)

I was the victim of being bullied and picked on at school. Not quite to the extent that this game has shown on its previews but still reasonably bad enough. It does seem crackers to make a game about an issue which happens all over the world to some unfortunate people including me still, I still get picked on even when I walk through my local village at times.

Im hoping this isnt going to promote bullying but we have seen other things stemming from video games in the past. Like a kid who brutally attacked another kid with a crow bar (He got that idea from Man Hunt)

Videogames about war (Medal of Honor), do they incite people to enlist and go to war?

Is GTA the real responsible for crime all over the world?

There was bullying ages ago, even before Back To School on the ZX Spectrum, so i'm guessing videogames aren't the real issue...

I totally agree with airjoca, releasing this game will not contribute either possitively or negatively to the subject bullying in schools generally imo, just for the main reason that kids are not even surposed to touch the game, its rated 18 i think, so it'll just be plain stupid/ignorant to pick on the game i anything happens with regards to that subject after the release.
Like airjoca said bullying has been present ever since, although reduced but the act is still alive and kicking sadly, but as ever everyone's always looking for something to blame mishaps on rather than taking responsibility and acting on the problem, and this will be no exception, you cant fight a war with a table knife, you're better off tackling the problem head on, than using minor factors to try to solve it, ;)

@ Lemonjelly - yeah i know, its going a bit too far now, but for some reason i dont think it'll stretch further than this, take two already has enough problems of its own atm.

Alright back to the game, i kinda hope we'll be able to rename the characters in the game, and create our own characters from scratch, that'll give people the chance to payback/revenge all those guys who thought they were the balls in high school :mrgreen:

Yeah i know, i have a feeling this game will reek of humour, prolly be one of those game i can reside to after getting my butt whopped countless amounts of times at PES6 online. (hopefully not) :mrgreen:
 
I think anyone who lets a game influence them into doing bad things has something wrong with them to begin with...

I read somewhere this game will be rated a 15, not sure if that was true though?
 
Yeah, just looked up and it seems it's been given a "T"(teen) rating, not sure how long that will last though.

I think he's the bully actually Thomas, it's very realistic this game ;) I wonder if he's got his trademark groin-stamping action included, and I wonder if he's got any "friends" who wink a lot... Hmmm, I'll be paying him a visit :mryellow:

And is that the right message to be portraying to kids? I have a 2 year old and she occasionally reaches out to push someone, or gently hit them. Should I ignore it or correct her to say it isn't a nice thing to do? Likewise if she is pushed or hit, should I tell her to hit the other person back?

This is something I will disagree with you on Jack. Violence doesn't solve anything.
 
Stop her from pushing someone thats the right thing to do. Not sure on the "they hit me so I should hit them" allthough my old man always said "Stick up for yourself!"

So if she gets punched in the face she should stand there and take it? It's the big debate isn't it...

Put it like this, I went to secondary school and I bullied from day one. At first it was name-calling but it gradually got worse and worse, and six months in I was getting punched and tripped every day, and beaten up by a gang of people once a week. I never once hit them back, and to this day I've never hit anybody. My next-door neighbour could come and hit me in the face for no reason, and I'd shut the door, sit down and go back to the XBOX (and I swear to God that is no exaggeration).

I told my parents about it, the teachers about it, the headmaster. One half of the parents said "hit them back" (which I could never do and they knew it), the other half said I was a poof and probably deserved it, the teachers said "get on with it, see the headmaster if you've got to" and the headmaster said, with me sitting there with blood pouring down my face - and I quote - "boys will be boys Christopher - bullying doesn't exist in this school, take it all with good humour".

I was devestated, I laughed out loud, walked out, and I vowed never to go back to school again. I was pushed into special schools by the local council, where they were packed with arsonists and lessons consisting of 1+1=2 - I wasn't thick, I loved the actual learning side of school. After a week of that I promised myself I'd never do what these bastards wanted me to do ever again, even though they were threatening to jail my parents which was an idle threat (I explained the bullying to the police and they just said there was nothing they could do, that was the school's area), and I never did go back to any school, bar three years at college; even that was put to a stop when the symptoms that were first showing at secondary school started showing (one of the bullies from that school appeared in my final year there). I don't feel like I can have a life, it's impossible to get a decent job with the few qualifications I got from college, and the idea of going to Uni scares the shit out of me after what I went through.

Now, if I'd have had the nerve to turn around and punch the bastards in the face from day one, they wouldn't have done it again. End of, don't care what you say. If I'd have got in trouble for it, fine, but the most I would have got was a detention and then I could have got on with life, and if I could travel back in time, even though I'd struggle to do it, I'd sure as hell punch them back and get on with getting an education rather than having the life I've got now.

So say what you want, I know violence is wrong and I would never ever do anything of the kind (without going back in time at least); but when the same was happening to my nephew and the school wouldn't do anything, our family clubbed together and said "punch him back and he won't do it again". And he punched him, and he never did it again. He hasn't punched anybody since, he hasn't been violent since, he's not been aggressive since (that's both the nephew AND the bully I'm referring to there). But if the nephew gets punched now, he'll do it back.

The way that bullying is handled in this country is disgusting, a lot of people have since said to me they went through exactly the same things, from that school and from several others in the area (and outside). But even if they got their act together, going to the bully and saying "now we know you're hitting this guy, don't do it again or you'll know about it", the bully will then get twice as worse. It's no deterrent. My parents approached a few of the bullies' parents and their reaction was "our son does NOTHING of the kind, GET OUT OF MY HOUSE" - and you could tell from the way they spoke to their son that they knew he was a complete shitbag at school. The next day we had a brick through the window, and who was running up the road? It wasn't a schoolboy. It was an adult.

Sorry, but punch them back and it's over. Take it, and you're setting yourself up for a lifetime's worth more.

If the game has any influence on anybody, which I very, very much doubt it will, then it could only be a good thing. It's not saying "bullying is fun". It's saying "standing up for yourself will give you a better life". Which is true - obviously, not standing up for yourself and letting it go on isn't a life. Thousands upon thousands of kids are robbed of a childhood because of bullies. If this helps one of them to punch them back and end it all, then I'm for the game 100%.

Totally agree with you Jack. It's just too bad we have the same opinion but different reasons and backgrounds for it. At least you can pass on that knowledge to family/friends, and make sure it doesn't happen to others close to you.

Edit: 8.9 on IGN, might check it out.

Did any of u read anything about this game it was all over hyped as going to far when the title was originally released.
But as the game turns out it is just about being a school kid and going through what we all went through at school (like the book catcher in the rye etc) and you make your own chioces in the game even to stop Bullying etc.
The game is supposed to be really good and probably Rockstar being really clever at slapping idiots in the face who jump on bandwagons.
 
Major UK retailers refuse Bully

Major electronics retailers PC World, Currys and Dixons have refused to stock controversial Rockstar title Bully, renamed Canis Canem Edit in Europe.

All owned by DSG International, the group has confirmed the title will not be on sale in High Street stores PC World and Currys Digital, as well as online outlet Dixons.co.uk.

"We have no plans to stock Canis Canem Edit," said a statement from Currys.

"We're fully aware people will be able to buy this game elsewhere, but we feel this game is not appropriate for Currys' family-friendly image."

"We have a good relationship with the game's producers Rockstar, and look forward to working with them going forward," concluded the statement.

The above outlets currently sell a range of software, including 18-rated titles from a variety of publishers.

PC World is taking pre-orders for Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, as well as Grand Theft Auto IV, to be released in October 2007.

Canis Canem Edit is released in Europe on October 27th, and carries a BBFC 15 rating.
