CONFIRMED - WE9:I FOR USA (it IS coming)

Despite this: http://www.konami.com/gs/gameinfo.php?id=164&pid=1

which admittedly was a page set up almost 4 months ago, there is official word now that WE9:I WILL NOT be released in the United States on any format.

I was watching a gaming show on cable this morning and it interviewed Konami America about the product line for the XBox360 and whether they had got far in development for PS3 titles given the developer kits were very late being sent out. They went on about the PS3 for about 5 minutes saying that the most exciting thing was the storage capacity of the blu-ray format for RPG etc. blah blah blah and then they went through their list of titles under production for both machines.

I figured when they listed the development line-up they just didn't bother mentioning it but they made a special point of saying, AS FOR THE COMPANY'S BEST SELLING SPORTS CONVERSION OUTSIDE OF JAPAN, THERE WILL BE NO SOCCER TITLE FROM KONAMI THIS YEAR FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET AS KONAMI AMERICA WILL BE WAITING FOR THE FIRST OFFICAL RELEASE FOR THE PS3 IN JAPAN BEFORE CONVERTING THE TITLE TO NEXT GEN MACHINES IN WESTERN EUROPE. FOR THE U.S. THIS MEANS NO TITLE UNTIL 2007 SO GAMERS WILL HAVE TO MAKE DO WITH EA SPORTS FIFA WORLD CUP REELASE AND A RUMORED CONVERSION OF FOOTBALL KINGDOM WHICH IS UNDERSTOOD TO HAVE SECURED A WIDER DISTRIBUTION THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER SOFTWARE HOUSES WHO WILL CONVERT THE TITLE FOR MULTI-PLATFORM RELEASE.

This came from the interview with the heads at Konami America so I'm assuming it's not BS and they had the guy talking on the screen for almost ten minutes about the companies releases so I'm figuring if he says it, it must be true!!!! The stores which have it listed are making the usual assumations of release. I got a little suspicious when I read the official Konami website as in the link at the beginning as it mentioned "New Leagues" etc. and then I realized it was the same press release almost as for WE8:I.

Sucks but then if it was only going to be a straight conversion again of PES5, we're really not missing much. Hopefull by the time we receive WE10:I, it will be an awesome title for both XBox360 & PS3.

good find wolf.

For me it pretty much confirms that Konami will be using the PS3 as the main platform for its WE/PES releases, as it did with the PS2.

I wouldnt be too gutted about the wait though, Rumour has it that the PS3 will be region free so you could always play the games earlier anyways. Providing that Konami dont put their own region coding into the game.

Eh, I purchased the PC version of PES5 so no harm done. I will be upset if we don't get next gen though.

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

I think personally Konami will abandon the US market altogether with Winning Eleven on any platform, next gen. or otherwise.

You have to see the hate for the North American market on the Japanese gaming boards which unlike ours, are frequented by developers and programmers from the many Japanese software houses. They get really involved in their gaming community and implement a lot of patches for RPGs just out of popular requests on some of the major forums. Some staff from Konami were really, really dissing the North American market and the XBox 360 saying they weren't going out of their way to convert many titles for the machine. Apparently the dog heads this year in the WE/PES title came from a poll on one of the major gaming forums about what special heads the gamers would like this year. Another 9% of the votes swinging one way would have seen big cats (lions, tigers, etc.) and 12% voted for fish-heads!!! The Japanese are very into their RPGs and have online clans represented by animals, hence last years inclusion of the horse heads, eagle heads, etc.

They release PES for the European market as it's their big cash-cow to fund a lot of the specialist RPG titles. Obviously this also explains why the Japanese market can get 4 versions of the soccer title in one year while Europe simply gets one port. They released WE7:I in the USA as they thought it would have the same impact (and bring in the same money) as PES in Europe but they didn't figure that the gaming community here isn't driven by forums and online communities, but advertising.

Unless somebody figures out how to make the European/Asian games play on the PS3/XBox 360, North America will have no more Konami soccer titles to play indefinitely.

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

This is ridiculous. I have been a big fan of the series since WE6, and I was greatly looking forward to WE9: International. I already have we9 (japanese version), but not many of my friends can play foreign games, so this is very bad news. I can't believe that they won't release we9 here, given that every single magazine and website that reviews games in this country absolutely love the game.

fuck you konami

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

Are you serious?! This can't be possible. I got upset when I thought WE8:LE was going to be the last game released for current consoles, and I wasn't going to be able to play it.. And now you're telling me they're going to leave me hanging.. And not realease WE9:I which I've been waiting since WE8:I came out.. I've had $50 saved just for that game.. I said to myself.. I'm not touching that money because is for WE9... Konami let me down..

EDIT: How come on the link you provided, The Wolf, it says this,
Platform: PlayStation®2
Genre: Sports
Number of Players: 1-8
Release Date: Spring 2006
Developer: Konami

Which I believe is the official site.. And it is saying that the game will come out..

I've sensed this myself. although i mostly import the WE series i will not import it for the new consoles coming out becasue of the region coding that will probaly be implemented. so for right now my WE gaming and any NEW WE gaming is over...

Well, you never know if Konami has really made up their minds on this... but perhaps another company (like Major A from a few years back) will buy the rights to sell WE/PES in the USA.

I'm not going to be concerned until I actually miss out on a WE/PES game.

The american release has already been previewed in Electronic monthly and The official xbox mag

Those reviews relate to a pre-PES5 viewing which was reported in full at IGN. The game they saw was the same one shown to the Euro mags who were reviewing the PES5 beta.

Nobody will be more delighted than me if that tv report turns out to be utter crap though!

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

I dont buy the american one anyway its identicle to Pes5 they dont even bother to change the manual it takes them 5 months to change the game from PAL to NTSC and make a new cover.

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

Apparently Konami have confirmed to The Boss on the PESFan forums that WE9:I IS GOING TO BE RELEASED AS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR NORTH AMERICA now!

Yes! Now to write to that useless bastard on tv!

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

Might be a bit off-topic, but will patching be possible for PS3 WE10?

considering that it will be on a blu-ray disc?

just wondering.

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

The good news is that the PS3 will probably be multi region like the psp.

This is due to high def tv's being multi region.

This will surly means that Konami can now concentrate on 1-3 universal releases instead of the 6 we get now and allow for proper testing time etc.

It's not identical mate. Never was.

Historically, the WExFE/LE is the best tweaked gameplay for Jap version in each generation, and WE9Int always has had the best gameplay for English version.

I'm looking forward to release day.

PES% is beeter than PES4 but no way is it better than WE9 and IMO WE9Int will rock.

Cheers

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

Winning eleven International American release and Pro evolution soccer are always exactly identicle.
The fact that patches and options files can be converted from each game proves this.
The manual that comes with the game has screen shots of Pro evolution soccer as it says pro evolution soccer on the menu screen shots. its identicle they just change the cover of the manual and game.
There nothing wrong with this it just makes a joke they have to wait 6 months to release it

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

I'll buy WE9:I for the XBox if it's compatable with XBox360. PES5 for the XBox plays on European XBox 360s so hopefully the same will be true of WE9:I.

I pray to God that it is online for ps2. The Europeans and Japanese get online, so we should too!

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

I did write to Konami asking for details of whether the XBox version of WE9 was going to be backwards compatable on the 360 (like PES5 in Europe) but surprise sur-fucking-prise, they didn't reply now 4 weeks later! Obviously too much trouble for them to bother with customers.

Yeah they don't have the customer service of dare I say EA. They're really good with emails.

Wolf, do you think you or a moderator could change the thread title? It might be confusing for noobs who don't like the read the entire thread.

It meant year as in generic Konami soccer gaming year (Aug-Jul), I think we all know what a freaking regular calendar year is so thanks for that earth shattering information that Feb 06 is a different calander year to the one we're currently in!

Besides, if you read the rest of the posts you'll see the TV show got it wrong anyway!

Re: CONFIRMED - NO WE9:I FOR USA

The gameIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSS going to be released, jeez there are so much previews out there and even pre orders and by the way there is no fair reason not to release it in the US.

I love how people say, I won't buy it!! cause it's identical to PES... NOT FOR US IN THE STATES!! ... THIS WILL BE ON-LINE!!! There is nothing out there in the world with the name Winning Eleven that I can play On-Line in the states. That's why I CAN"T WAIT to buy this!!
