Dead Island

Just stumbled across a weapon duplicating glitch. Basically throw your weapon and as you throw it press and hold triangle. You'll throw your weapon and then pull out a duplicated second weapon and drop that in front of you. So it's cheating but handy for duplicating your best weapons or churning out 15 of the same to then sell.

I have no idea how this has happened but I loaded my game yesterday on chapter 3 and played for a few hours. After a while I noticed the autosave logo wasn't appearing anymore so quit the game and re loaded it. Upon loading everything was fine.

However today I load my save and somehow I'm back in chapter 2!?

So annoying.

I downloaded a PC mod last night that improves the gun aspect, haven't tried it out yet but probably will today:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2118105

Total list of changes in this mod:
Movement speed changes, mainly strafing.
Recoil reduction and base 1% crit chance on guns.
Headshots do tons of damage.
Shops stock guns equal or near equal to level at 2 and up.
Shops stock ammo.
999k ammo capacity so you can buy/store as much as you want.
Medkits buffed to 300% so they're useful mid/late game.
Bullets have 100% penetration so they go through zombies.
Special dev gun not obtainable in the regular game in the final shops.
Ammo crafting ingredients reduced by 1.
More cash found to help pay for ammo and guns!
All guns can receive the shock mod and it only requires the recipe.
Shop inventories fixed to reflect new level requirements.
Katana + Wakizashi are the only melee weapons in shops. They're the best. (This is actually done because other melee weapons were hogging the inventory, now it has more guns.)
Lockpicked chests drop rare loot more often, if you need some good blunt weapons invest in that.

Be interested to see how it is Placebo as I'm playing as the gun specialist lady.

Also can this mod be applied to a save game or do we have to restart?

Yeah it's for ongoing games, well Purna? Is very powerful with guns anyways so it's supposed to help the other characters more, haven't tried her myself I'm using Logan I think it is? the ex american football quarterback

Must have played about 3 hours yesterday and got quite a bit done (PS3). When I put it back on today I was back where I started...FUCKERS.

FAO Radiation, jaygrim

I notice you're both playing this on PS3 and have lost data. Both the missus and I were losing some too until finding some info on the net that's helped us no problems whatsoever since in around 15 hours play each.

- Keep signed out before & during play.
- Keep your game locked on single-player only, this also makes the game auto-save more regularly
- Don't resume playing at the main menu with "Continue". Always use "Play" and load your save up via your character.
- Finish your session on the game by forcing a save. Go change a control setting in the Options menu, back out and see the game saving. Revert your control setting back, it'll save again. Process takes around 20 seconds overall, is worth it.

It's great to not have to worry about things fucking up. Currently at Level 21 and in Act 2. Done craploads of exploring and find it hard to turn off.

Thanks mate I'll try that.

LOL I nipped into Gamestation at lunch to have a look and maybe buy this, they must be on another planet because they were charging £47.99 for the standard edition......erm, no thanks. Sometimes I think high street shops are actively encouraging people not to use them.

Anyone know of a good place to buy this?

Patch 1.02 now out, at least on PS3 anyway. 31mb in size. Can't find any patch notes, haven't noticed any changes personally.

Might be the save bug stuff, I've been fine on that front for a while so I wouldn't know.

Thanks Proxi, hope it sorts the save bug not really been on it with Gears and now F1.

Got the game this weekend, quite like it, it's good fun especially in co-op. I only do private co-op though, before I changed the settings some random dude joined our game and promptly played it by sprinting off, talking to a character, skipping all the dialogue, then immediately sprinting off on his own to complete the task while me and my mate were off doing other stuff. Before we could catch up with him, he'd completed the task and that goes down as a mission complete in my own single player campaign :( I neither heard any dialogue, so knew nothing of the story, then didn't even get a chance to find out what the mission was before this guy had gone and done it on his own.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to play co-op like that, or even play the game like that. He was totally unconcerned with the story as he kept skipping the bloody thing, then sprinted off to get it done as soon as he could.....

Other than that it's cool, I like the RPG elements of repairing weapons etc, and selecting body parts to hit is also good. Might end up repetetive quite quickly but as a co-op game with flaws it's still good fun. Oh, and the graphics on 360, I was surprised. It generally looks lovely.

Tried the game this weekend on PC, and I had a lot of fun. In fact, I had more fun with this than with most of the AAA titles I've played lately (namely Deus Ex). Co-op makes it very, very fun to play. Great concept and game design. If they had the AAA technology to back it up it would be amazing.

A mix of Far Cry and Zombie games.

Think I'll pick this up when it drops in price.

See Lionsgate have bought the rights to any movie spin-offs that they can make.

Anyone still playing this? I kind of ignored it not long after buying but since my 360 is offline for a month or so I've jumped into the story mode and am loving it. I see its limitations and little glitches here and there but how Edge magazine gave this such an awful score I'll never know. It's good old B movie fun. Love games with RPG style character levelling up.

Just did the part where you trek through the jungle and get to the ocean to find flares, it still surprises me how nice it all looks too.

Are there a lot of quiet spots about the Island or is it just wave after wave of Zombie.

I quite like the idea of a quiet area with not many or no Zombies, apart from a rare one.

I've progressed to the town now, and it's HARD. Really hard. I think it's really designed, even in difficulty, to be played in co-op mode. I had been playing it offline as my xbox account is locked down after being hacked, but until that's back up and running I might wait, then play it in co-op, because it's impossible on your own to move on foot more than two streets without having a hoard of about 10 zombies flying across the street after you.

If it's designed to be played with other people then the game ideally should be more like Left4Dead, where at least if you do choose, or have no choice other than to play offline, at least your team mates are replaced by AI characters who follow you around and help out. It doesn't really make sense, because you see a cut scene with the whole group of characters together, say in a tight spot, covering each other as zombies come from all sides, then when it skips into the gameplay itself it's back to just being you on your own again. Kind of ruins some of the story in those cut scenes to be honest.

Got it for Xmas, quite good, not sure how great the storymode is and some stupid stuff in it as well.

Having looked at the manual not sure about some of the baddies, wish it was just your normal zombie.

Anyone end up finishing this?

I left the game completely for ages, just went back to it this week and at first I really enjoyed it, but I think it's one of the first games I've ever bought where I'm not gonna see it through to the end. The reason is the respawn mechanism when you die. It's absolutely ridiculous. How anyone developing the game thought this would be a good system is anyone's guess, for me it's game breaking.

I basically spend half an hour trudging across the city map, bludgeoning zombie after zombie, just to get to an objective. I then get set upon my a massive hoard out of nowhere, I take down a load of zombies, using all my ammo, wrecking my weapons etc, but I get overpowered and die. The game then takes about £5000 a time off me, then respawns me either miles away from where I was on the map, or spawns me slap bang in the middle of the hoard I'd just lost to.

What makes it really stupid, is that you repawn, with little health, no ammo and with all of your weapons screwed, yet ALL of the zombies you took down have now all regenerated. Great. So you get stuck in this endless loop of not being able to defend yourself because the game doesn't recognise that you used all your stuff in the first place.

Add to that, the missions are actually pretty boring. You literally just travel from A to B, and back again. Every time, with me having to do a shoulder charge then head stomp move over and over again. It's REALLY repetitive.

It's a shame, I had a blast with the game up until this point (around 60% of the way through the main story) but without doing co-op the game is just too hard. They really screwed up the balance between the two.

Plus for me, co-op really isn't an option. I don't know anyone else who has the game, and playing with randoms online is useless because all they do is sprint from A to B, get there miles ahead of you, then skip all the cut scenes etc. You literally have the game being played for you, and all your missions being completed, by some random person who doesn't even let you see the story bits. Totally pointless.

But that respawn issue is insane, I can't think why they did it like this. One time I respawned in the same area but randomly inside a house I'd never been in, with all my weapons screwed, and immediately set upon from behind buy a load of zombies. Another time, I spent ages working across the map, got near to the mission objective, then respawned all the way back where I started, on top of a dumpster surrounded by half a dozen zombies, and on about 5% health. Great. And that's not to mention how there's no way to just quick-save where you are, meaning if you need to leave the game mid-mission, you can't without losing all your progress, and also the fact that there is NO save mechanism at all. It just saves once you complete a mission. Fail before you finish, and you lose a ton of stuff, xp, new mission objectives, everything. It's ridiculous.

It's fun at first but I can't overlook so many bugs and glitches, it's a mess. I could overlook these problems because the game was reasonably easy at first, now it's crazy hard in the city levels and it's not fun to spend 25 minutes scrapping across the game world only to have to go back there all over again but without all the stuff you'd used first time around. Crazy.

I was gonna see about on-line co-op too, but can see the problems your talking about story skipping.

I thought the game was really good though, just completed it the once though, it's a big game and I couldn't really be bothered doing it all over again with someone else.

I completed it with the American Football guy.

Isn't he the throw expert? I decided against that after reading issues with people spending tons of cash building their weapons, then only to see them vanish when they throw it at a zombie and go back to collect it again. I've been playing as the rapper, Sam B, but story-wise it's very poor. There's pretty much no story relevant to the character you choose.

Anyways, I bit the bullet and persevered with it. I basically survived a ton of onslaughts in the city by realising you can stand on the bonnet of a car or truck and they can't reach you, but you can reach them :P

I've also decided to plough through the main missions rather than do so many of the side quests. One quest, for some random dude who wanted some medicine, saw me trek halway across the city and back again. When I returned, having gotten my ass kicked along the way, he basically just said "Ahh my medicine. Now go away, I have work to do". Cheers then!

I'm currently
now in the jungle, it's so far been much easier than the city. I just took out a couple of gangs, and have helped the scientists at the lab.

Just hammering the main missions doesn't feel as repetitive now, doing the side-missions could get really tedious.
