That show/table is garbage. It's fundamentally flawed because it counts all domestic leagues as equal, i.e. a win in Holland for PSV at home to NEC counts for as much as Inter winning away to Juventus in Serie A.

It's based on results, not the quality of the teams. Isn't results what football is about? We reach the end of season we should see the domestic leagues winners on top. to see who is above who they use the CL.

I'm saying the table is flawed, because winning a domestic game in Scotland, Holland, or Portugal, is worth as much as winning one in Serie A, La Liga or the EPL. It's much tougher to win a game in a bigger league, but that's not reflected in the points and is why you end up with, for example, Fenerbahce ahead of Barcelona and AC Milan.

It's the same reason why the Golden Boot award gives 3 points per goal scored in Italy, Spain, etc, and only 1 point for a goal scored in Scotland - the quality of opposition has to be taken into account.

Well Classic that is typically for the way players in the big competitions receive preferrential treatment. I know that the Italian league is ùmore difficult than the Belgian, Scottish or Dutch, but a goal is a goal everywhere...from the pint of view of the striker (and only the striker) it is as difficult to score a goal against Brussels as against Real Madrid (insert any team you want).

A,nd about that ranking...well it is stupid to compare things that cannot be compared but the ranking itself can not be that bad giving the fact thatLyon are top of the table and they truly are one of the best teams in Europe (cfr their thrashing of Real Madrid in the CL). It is stupid however that only 24 clubs are considered.

Yeah I get your point, Classic, but to find a consensous on this is hard. If we asked everyone to make a list, at the end of the season, of the the 24 top clubs of the year there would be enourmours differences between everyone's list.

I agree with both of you guys. I think a truer way of finding out the best teams is surprisingly, UEFA's own co-efficient system. It's based only on European results I think, and covers the previous few seasons. That means those teams who don't do well enough in their domestic league don't get the chance to climb the co-efficient ranking. The only problem I have with that system is it covers the previous five seasons, maybe a bit too long.

Mate, It's as difficult to score against my sunday league team as against Real Madrid! ;)

I agree with the UEFA system being more accurate but you are then faced with a problem with teams carrying out a mass exodus of their best players (especially after so called lesser teams do so well). A team that has done relatively well over the past 4-5 years may not be the same team currently.

I think that wins should be 4 points for English, Italian and Spanish teams, as those leagues are by far the most balanced and powerful in Europe. Then German, French and maybe some other I am forgetting should score 3, then the rest should score just two.

BTW, personally I consider much harder for Real Madrid to win at Atlético Madrid's than to win at Grasshopper's...

Stupid because the french league is nothing compared to the English.

No, you are stupid !
So why English clubs take so many players from French League

Gallas, Drogba, Cech, Essien and L.Diarra, please comeback :lmao:

No, i dont mean it like that, i mean it that Lyon should not be judged on the points they get in the same way that the English teams should, because their opponents are tougher.

Manchester United 0 - 0 Lille  big difference

Man Utd = 3rd of the Premiereleague
Lille = 9th of the Ligue 1

and Manchester United play at home

Thats notw aht i mean man. Results come and go, teams get lucky, look at the united squad right now, its depleted.

The English, Spanish and Italian leagues are all tougher in comparison to the French league, that is a fact.

Thats why 4 teams go to the Champions League from Italy, Spain and England. 4/20, as its a bigger achievement to win the EPL than the French League.

UEFA =

1 - Liga
2 - PremierLeague
3 - Serie A
4 - Ligue 1
5 - Bundesliga

so ok, you are "2" and ligue 1 are "4" because you have 4 big teams (Che, Man, Ars & Liv) with alot of money, but i think the medium and little teams from France are better than medium and little teams from England, you understand ?

But the medium little teams are not as good as the medium and little teams from England. Thats why UEFA let 4 teams in from England and not France, its not as big of an achievement to win the Ligue than it is to win the EPL.

No point explaining it to him, Sulph. He's only disagreeing with you because he's defending his country, thats all. The standard in EPL is much higher than at Ligue. Which is why Sulph rightly pointed out, we get 4 teams to qualify for the CL and you lot dont.
