Football Kingdom Sequel Petition

I love how there are water bottles around the goal posts for the keeper and how you can knock them down. The small details in this game along with the beautiful, most realistic nets animations were way ahead of it's competitors.

never played or heard of this game oustide these forums. did it ever get released in the UK? im sure it diddnt as i would have heard of it and seen it in the shops.

Never played this game but I am amazed every time I see videos from it. Seems to have some problems with CPU and keepers but some of it looks amazing:

  • Obvious one - The nets looks amazing
  • Power in shots and headers are really good.
  • I don't know if it is the colour palette or what it is but on some pitches it looks amazingly realistic. The graphics isn't good as in polygon count, but the overall look beats PES and FIFA hands down, looks very realistic
  • You can curl passes which is realistic and looks great. In PES and FIFA every pass is pretty much in a straight line.
  • When I look at any goal scored in this game I get the feeling that it must been a great feeling scoring it, looks so realistic. In PES and especially FIFA I just feel "meh" when I score or watch a video of a goal. And I play FIFA on full manual so I don't know what it is, but it feels like anything can happen in this game just like in real life.

The last point is what I miss most in PES and FIFA. I prefer FIFA nowadays but scoring goals in FIFA doesn't feel that good even if I'm fully manual. Every time I score it feels scripted somehow. I think it can be because of ball physics, nets and the scripted keepers in FIFA, but I'm not sure. All I know is that the feeling is not even close Football Kingdom, and I never even played that game!

Edit: I should also point out that the game is way too arcady for me personally, but the points I listed are realistic ones that are done better than both PES and FIFA, which is amazing for an old game like this.

Why would they make another new game when the original didn't sell in the first place?

If I knew about this game when it was released, and if it had been released in Europe then I'm pretty sure I would have played this instead of PES.

It looks better than it actually plays, but as an arcade football game is was fun in small doses. Should release a HD version via XLA and PSN.

Agreed, I remember buying into the hype and Jesus Christ it was awful. Gameplay wise it didn't come close to PES.

There's only one reason that people still remember it and that's the nets.

Come on dudes, game released in 2004.Compare fifa 2004 and pes3.We don't say, this game beats fifa or pes but 3nd good soccer game would be great.Just need some little improvements and features.

Graphic;Just make hd
Feautures;Online system
İmprovements; Better goalkeeper

Like that.Game already has 360 passing, good animations, beautiful nets vs vs..

It probably do plays really bad, but is it just the nets that make videos of this game look so amazing when scoring? I would love the gameplay of fifa but get this feeling when looking at it/playing it.

Yeah Gab all that you said in your original post I agree with it. Obviously having not played it I cant comment on gameplay and it does look arcadey but the game from the main camera just looks so realstic. It almost looks like a real match at times, the colours and lighting are perfect. The ball physics and player animations are very good, it just LOOKS so much better than even next gen HD Fifa and PES, which is shocking to be honest. When you play FIFA straight after watching real football it's really quite underwhelming and poor in comparison.

And obviously there's the beautiful nets.

If FIFA could just get the graphics/animations guys over to work for them we'd be onto a winner.

Gab pretty much posted what I would have done, but in more detail, I agree with all of it.

I'm not that bothered about having realistic nets normally (and think people who keep going on about them like they are the most important thing in the game are VERY sad) but why can they be done that realistically on a game so old on a companies first (and only) attempt?
EA have had 9 attempts on PS2 (FIFA 01-09) and 3 on next-gen (07-09) yet they are nowhere near, PES had decent nets on PS2 but still nowhere near FK ones, seems like laziness to me.

The low-res vids make it look almost real, better than PES 10/FIFA 10 (i.e. realistic colours/lighting, things aren't too bright/shiny) and the physics/animations also seem better than FIFA 10 as well as 360 degree control being much more evident.

I don't think either PES or FIFA are realistic, as Jumbo said - watch real football and then go on either and it's just so different it's actually ridiculous.
You get the feeling if this series had been developed over many years with annual editions released like PES and FIFA, it would no doubt be the front runner by a mile.

How can you possibly say that without ever having played it for a minute??????

The animations are great, yes - looking at it from a distance it looks pretty close to real football, but you don't know what buttons are being pressed on the pad, you can't see the response time issues, invisible forcefields, passes and shots that are automatic and that you have no control over whatsoever, ridiculous bugs, ridiculous refereeing etc... So how can you say that it would be the front runner by a mile if it would have carried on?

Enough people thought it was shite in the first place for it not to sell and for it to get canned. There was far too much wrong with it.

The animations, specifically the net animations, are the only reason that people keep mentioning it and it's really annoying from having looked forward to it so much, and it playing like absolute garbage. I'd rather see This Is Football make a comeback because at least they have specialists in PlayStation programming, and at least it was playable.

It might just be how it looks then that made me think that - but the way they went straight in and implemented stuff like 360 degree control and (what looks like) manual controls as early as 2004 shows where we should be right now, these shouldn't be new revolutionary things, they should have been in football games for years .

Also, almost every single game on the market that's a sequel was pretty crap to start with, even PES and especially FIFA.

It had nice ideas without a doubt, and I'd love to see other games implement them. But the actual gameplay was a huge let-down personally. It was an arcade game and it was horribly frustrating to play, not a patch on the games at the time even if graphically it was better.

There was another game released shortly afterwards, a PES style game with fake lower leagues. I believe SEGA published it over here but I'm not sure. Gameplay-wise it was poor but again it had some neat touches and some ideas that had never been seen before (the camera would zoom in when you were one-on-one for example).

It really annoyed me though more than anything because here was a poorer game than PES, made in Japan where apparently nobody cares about the lower leagues - with tons of lower leagues in (including a lower-league Tranmere with fake names). Yet the mighty Pro Evo couldn't be arsed putting them in and kept coming up with the same old excuses.

I wonder what that was called...

One of my mates bought that game - it was called "Virtua Pro Football".

The gameplay was rubbish, but it had a career/be-a-pro mode that seemed really good and as you say, it had all the lower-league teams. Another problem with that game was that Alan Green was the commentator, tosser.

If I remember correctly, it wasn't actually 360 degree movement, but only 16 degrees and ridiculously quick feets that touched the ball a lot. Might be wrong though, just what I remember from a discussion about that I read earlier..

And it had a set piece creator!

Somebody start a petition for this game to come back!!!!!!11

Seriously though, why are football video games so far behind just about every other type of sports games?

We're all desperately hoping FIFA 10 will be a good game, but 08 and 09 have been full of shit and extremely repetitive after a couple of months, no real changes seem to have happened to the team behind FIFA 10 so we can probably expect more of the same...

PES is hardly worth mentioning as it's just stuck in the last generation...
