HD Televisons

Any tv that you guys are thinking of buying, remember that it needs to have "HDCP enabled" to be able to accept the SKY HD signals. There is a lot of confusion at the moment as there are many TV's claiming to be HD capable when in fact it is not. I have included a list of TV's that are HD ready - although not for the maximum resolution of 1080i/p

Initially sky will start to broadcast at 720 which is still a remarkable improvement in quality to standard definition (SD broadscast), however, if you're not in a rush then waiting until later this year/early next when the next generation of HDTVs appear, may be more of a prudent purchase since they will start to support 1080i (1080p will probably be more for HD-DVD/Blu Ray rather than broadcast)

Remember that 1080 has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 so any TV that is xxxx X 720 will require some electronic wizardry to downscale the image (make 1080 fit into 720) and since the next gen consoles support and eventually release games running at 1080 then you may not get the true resolution intended.

At the moment, in terms of picture quality, DLP TV's are leading the way and do not suffer from burn-in plasmas do. However if you want hang on the wall TV then LCD is probably the best choice.

Sorry about the long post, but these TV's are currently a lot of money and I want to help people make an informed decision. Below are TV's that are HD ready (720)

Apologies for digging this up, I'm about to buy the Panasonic TH42PV500 for around 80,000Czk, does anyone have this TV? I'd like to know how the PS2 plays on it :)

Thanks for the confirmation, I did just sign up to there already today, haven't had much chance to look around much though :)

I saw someone posting that their TH42PV500 shows 3" vertical black borders when using a PS2, which is a bit off putting :(

Heard it's this year sometime, also heard NTL are gonna take it up too but I'll believe that when I see it (feckers).

It's all well and good having a HDTV but I ain't got anything to play on it! I tried WE8LE on it and maybe it was just my mind playing tricks on me but it looked worse than on my own TV. That might be because the bigger the TV, the more stretched and pixellated it looks, a bit like when you stretch the window size while viewing porno clips and get a muff full of squares.

HDTVs don't blur images like regular TVs, so when you play old games, they look pixelated, the same with digital TV and DVDs on it.

You'll really see the advantage when watching Sky+ HD, Blu-ray or PlayStation 3 on it :D

Don't worry. PS3 is coming :)
Look for the PV500 run in settings, or make your own thread. Just do a search I would say.

Hey guys, Just wanted to know if any of you own or have seen a hdtv?

Just that the next gen console are chatting loads about them, whats the deal? All I know is that they are high definition tv's that allow you to play your xbox 360/ps3 with an amazing picture.

I havnt been able to find any in the uk, except on ebay where the widescreen ones are well over £1000!

thanks

You can pickup an HD TV from anywhere nowadays. Try Curry's or Amazon.

You should be able to get a good one for under £1000.
