konami screwed it up as they have been doing since after winning eleven 9. since we 10, the fast players started to dominate the game by making easy runs and dribling.

i lost my faith in konami as they failed to released a decent game in 3 years. now, i hope that ea brings out its best in the fifa series cause that way maybe konami will get back on track.

I agree with you, we 8,9 10 are not bad games per se but the best WE of all the times in my opinion is WE6FE, after that konamy started doing uninspired changes to the serie.

theres a simple reason for that...
after we6fe Konami tokyo(KCET) the original makers of Winning eleven merged with konami Osaka(KCEO), this Osaka group were the makers of International super star soccer for the N64, wasnt a bad game either, but it was miles behind WE.

u can cleary notice the changes after the merger...just look how the player models changed from we6fe to we7....that actually wasnt bad..but the gameplay changes that happened from we6fe to we7 were really bad, mostly due to the influency of the osaka konami.

actually WE9AC is an extraordinary game and offers such a deep and balanced gameplay I've been enjoying it for the past 3 years (Perfect Striker from KCEO wasn't bad either, it was much better than the Playstation WE counterpart at the time tbh). I didn't like WE10 or anything produced afterwards, however and haven't really played 2007/2008 CC yet.

I'm going to play again WE6 tomorrow though, I'm sorta curious since it's been mentioned so many times lately.

i like we9ac too but also quite like jlwecc 2007 but only if play with j-league teams or olympiacos for some reason!

However, anyone find that the j-league games push defences too far back towards their own boxes so you end up playing give and goes in the opposition pen box?

I've actually started to change CPU defence line to high to combat this and get a better game.

Incidentally, i started playing we7i the other day - initially i was like what the hell is this, i can't do anything,

then i remembered - aah - this is why pes was just a challenge - it was BALANCED. gonna dedicate a few days to we7i to see how much i can get in to it - obviously the physics are a little weak and the through ball passing a little rubbish and the dribbling options limited but, i like the fact that even everton force me to work the ball around the middle third of the pitch.

I remeber when we10 and pes6 came out, the reviewers highlighted the fact that you could now pass the ball aorund the opposition final third more easily - i think the balance shifted too far so that too much of play now happens 20 yards from goal instead of 40 yards away.

Pheww - that enough i think!

I also want to say that ISS '98 on the N64 is by far the best football game I've played so far. Even by today's standards the gameplay is very nice, and that is 10 years after it came out.

What ISS 64 had was ATMOSPHERE, I loved the closeness of the crowd to the pitch, it was the only reason I had a N64. It was a great game but for me WE6FE fully patched was the best football game for me. I bet if played now for most people, ISS 64 wouldn't hold up. The other Winning Elevens have been good but especially with 9 and 10 the seem to have gone down the speedy players are most important route. I have always liked a passing game, a game that made you work for goal, not just the simple 'give the ball to the speedy winger/striker' that the last few pro evo's have taken. Another problem is online gaming where you always get 90% of the people you play always picking the best teams. Part of the fun with pro evo/winning eleven was picking the less fancied teams to battle it out.
On the topic of JE WE 2008, I thought it was good but now most of us want to see the series improve on the 360/PS3 platforms.

Well Ice, I agree with you almost in everything you said. There´s something of the old days feeling getting lost in this new versions (WE9 to PES2008), but i think the JL WE2008 CC edition is quite an improvement over the last years. It´s a pity really the PS2 development got to it´s limits, don´t think the developers will worry about future editions on this platform. But what worries me the most is the poor development of the game in the next gen consoles. The PS3 version is really a crap when talking about gameplay, i´m really amazed about this. Couldn´t they just make it like in PS2 but with al the new graphic power??? I think there are differente teams in the developing process of the game, and unfortunately, the team working on the next gen platmfors don´t have a clue of what we are asking for. Or maybe they know, what people want nowadays is graphic power and easy arcadish gameplay, and we the mistaken who have a more old fashioned vision of the game....

Dunno, but meanwhile, i had my ps2 with a hard drive installed (shouldn´t worry any more about the laser reader)and staying with this platform when talking about playing PES and WE with my friends.

What annoyed me most about this game is that CPU defending move - where the defender runs into you, turns his back, and you can't get the ball back - it's in nearly every tackle - so i stopped playing this as well as editing.

My hopes on FIFA09 now, which i played last night, and that keeps me happy!

I'm as pissed as the rest of the WE mob... been playing since ISS Deluxe on the SNES, and it's just the same shit every release since WE7i. For all the positives, they keep the same annoying stuff in there.

I've given up on WE/PES as a whole - which leaves me sad really, as it was such an integral part to my socialising with mates.

(...) since WE7i.

uhh, aside from Sensible World of Soccer on Amiga/WinUAE, JWE9AC is my all-time favourite football game and easily one of the best iterations of the WE franchise as a whole along with WE6FE and WE8LE(K) (haven't played 2008 CC yet, though I should get my copy on tuesday), it does have some flaws, notwithstanding the gameplay is nothing short of superb.

Hi, could someone please tell me the full name of JWE9AC, and on what platforms this game was released. Am I right in thinking it is equivalent (release date/year-wise) to the EU's PES 5? PES 5 is excellent, except the ref. blows too often. Any chance the ref. gives less fouls in JWE9AC? Thanks for any help. I'm currently acquiring WE9, but i assume that JWE9AC improves upon the gameplay to a great extent?

Cheers :)

Wait. I don't know if I understand well... you are saying that WE9 was too a "speedy players" oriented game??!!

If I could agree for WE10 (a decent game but seeing it with today's eyes, the begininning of the end!), i totally disagree with you for WE9... it's the more balanced WE of them all! I remember what a pleasure was to take in multi teams full of champions and always come up with balacend matches... hell, even in single it is fantastic :))!

I know this is an old thread but bored of waiting for PES 2010 i decided to get JLWE08CC and I have to say this games amazing.

I love playing in the JL and the fact u have the Asian Champions League and the World Club championship along with 2 different cups makes ML so much better plus the gameplay is really good iv had some great matches one was 3-1 down against Kashima with my team Omiya Ardija and winning 4-3 with 10 men and only 15 mins left!

the players seem so much more agile and shooting is really realistic.really enjoying this game and highly recommend it to anyone who hasnt played it
