Kevin Keegan has left Manchester City by mutual consent.
Reports on Thursday evening indicated Keegan had opted to call time on his Eastlands career and the club confirmed his departure in a statement on Friday morning.

"Manchester City football club announces that by mutual agreement our manager Kevin Keegan will leave the club with immediate effect," read a statement on the club's website. "We all believe that this is in the best interest of the club.

"Kevin has taken the club from the uncertainty created following our relegation to Division One, winning the First Division title with tremendous style, through to the longest spell the club has spent in The Premiership.

"He has brought stability to a club that was very much in need of solidity and consolidation.

"We have witnessed the skills and talents of such players as Ali Benarbia, Eyal Berkovic and the world class goalkeeping of Peter Schmeichel.
"Shaun Wright-Phillips has been developed through to England international status and seven other academy graduates have been nurtured through to the first team.

"Kevin's professionalism, infectious enthusiasm and drive for success have benefited all areas of the club.

"The board and staff of the football club would like to thank Kevin for his valued contribution to all aspects of our organisation and wish him and his family all the very best for the future."
Keegan had a rollercoaster three-and-a-half years at the helm of City, thrilling the fans with big-name signings and dashing football, but he had grown disillusioned with their failure to challenge the big three in The Premiership.

The 54-year-old made similar exits from Newcastle and England, but it would appear that this departure brings the curtain down on the managerial career of one of the game's most colourful characters.
Stuart Pearce is set to take temporary control of team affairs, but a host of names including Gordon Strachan, Iain Dowie, Martin O'Neill and Sam Allardyce have already been linked with the Eastlands post.

Is anyone else not shocked by this story, the guy has a history of walking away
 
No doubt Ranieri will be associated with City now. He wants to come back to the premiership. They'll probably hold off for the rest of the season and appoint a manager in the summer (perhaps Ranieri).

wouldn't be suprised if he walked away from football now, nice guy though and says what he thinks instead of some of the usual shit you get from some managers
 
Ill think he will retire but he will be missed, from us city fans and football in general!

I think he did say that once he left City he would call it a day. Hes now quit all 4 of his managerial jobs, thats one helluva record.
 
Peter Reids name has popped up as possible replacement for Kevvy. Given his phenomenal achievements in the past I can't see City fans having any problems with his immenent appointment as manager.
