I wanna get a HD TV but not so sure which would be the best one to go for, I was looking at this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/4501/partNumber/5361665/Trail/C$cip=36693.Sound%20and%20vision>C$cip=36785.Televisions>C$cip=36786.Plasma%20televisions.htm

but I am not too clued up on what it supports ie 720i/720p or 1080i/1080p?? At the minute I will be just using it to play the 360. I was also looking at this one http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/sto...ddhcflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&page=Product&sku=258371 or possibly this one http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/sto...dhhmdfhm.0&page=Product&sku=767045&tabIndex=1

please let me know what you think, I dont want to spend that type of money to later find out that it doesnt support the 360 best and later on sky hd and ps3 on down the line. Thanks

I can help you, hopefully but answer a few of m questions.

What is your budget?
What size you looking at?
What is your viewing distance?
Do you have a amp/speaker setup, or plan to get one?
Do have previous experience of amp+speakers setup?

Budget £1000-£2000, cheaper the better!
Size- 31-50" though 42" would be sweet
Distance- couple of feet
Got surround surround sound setup for 360 and pc
not too much experience with it.

cheers

Couple of feet
If you watch normal TV from a couple of feet it will look shit, but 360 will be fine.

Have you by any chance got Costco membership? Or Makro?

Sorry i meant about 10 feet. Yea ive got makro membership. Im thinking of getting this one http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/sto...dhhmdfhm.0&sku=767045&tabIndex=1&page=Product theres £1000 off it, offer runs out on Wed. but id like this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/4501/partNumber/5361665/Trail/C$cip=36693.Sound%20and%20vision>C$cip=36785.Telev isions>C$cip=36786.Plasma%20televisions.htm because its alot cheaper and i can use the argos card and pay it off within 2 yrs without paying any interest. But im not sure wheter they support 1080i on the 360???

10 feet, thats good. At 1-2 feet, you would go blind LOL!

Stay away from Goodmans/Bush/Amstrad and co. theya are shit.

You thought about getting rear projection TV's? They have a really good one on sale in Makro 50" Sagem for £799.99 + VAT so under 1k. It is a really good TV, with 2xHDMI so furutre proof. And also leaves you tons of money for PS3 and SkyHD LOL. It's on the first page here: http://www.makro.co.uk/flash11/pdf/MM11_nonfood_page33-48.pdf

You could always get that interest free from a credit card with 0% balance trasnfer bla bla.

If you don't want rear projection, tell me. These are brand new RPTV's using DLP technology. The old ones that people have are CRT RPTV and are shit compared to these ones.

I thought that the rear projection ones burned images into the screen? or does this DLP technology prevent that?

As long as it doesnt burn images into my very expensive tv and supports1080i/p for the 360 then i would be a very happy man especially at that price.

It doesn't burn don't worry. DLP doesn't burn screens.
It only does 720p and 1080i. No TV currently sold in UK does 1080p, nor does it really need to as Xbox360 and SkyHD can only do 720p and 1080i.
And PS3s games will aminly be in 720p/1080i. I wouldn't worry about 1080p.

And one more thing, when you go Makro to buy it, there are two versions of the TV. They are exactly the same apart from one makes buzzing sounds, the other doesn't. On the box on the side near the model number, it should say r906 which is the fixed version, the r905 has buzzing. In Makro they have some r906 and some r905, so don't be scared to tell them to look at the other stocks, as you don't want a duff TV.

Thanks for your help Ash, I think I will probably get that one, just hope makro has it instock for me.

is it best
1/ to wait for ps3 and buy a 1080p?
or
2/ buy a normal 1080i for the world cup??

Cheers ash, i was gonna!! lol

Newlok I read that all the sky hd boxes are sold out and it will be june 18th before you can get one installed, so you'll only get 1/4 of the world cup in HD, seeing as bbc are only showing 1/2 in HD. so i dont really think it would be worth it.im gonna wait a bit til that £299 price tag comes down.

Even in November, 1080p screens will be VERY expensive. If you wait for them, you will be waiting your whole life. By then you could have had one for one year. And depensing on what size you buy, only 40"+ TV's can you recognise the differnce between 1080i and 1080p.
Definately get a 1080i/720p for WC.

Is there any way of getting HD without purchasing a sky hd box or telewest hd box? ie so we can get BBC (WC) in HD or is it just wishful thinking?

Yeah, you can buy a Humax Satellite Box, but that costs around £300, same as SkyHD.
Or you could get a DVB card for your PC that accpets HD signal, and connect that to your TV, but your PC must be VERY fast, and I am talking about proper fast :)

Ahh fuck that then, I guess il wait til the price goes down a bit, sure champions league and premiership will be HD by the coming season. I will marvel at my 50" in the meantime!

Yeah CL and Premiership, Cricket, Rugby, Championship Footy is in HD. But it will be next year I think for boxes to get cheaper. Be warned, say you want the box for the begining of the EPL season, order now and choose your installation date, as there is none untile July/Augst for most people.
