Hie guys,I was thinkin about this after watchin the Arsenal vs Chelsea game. Its regarding the points system.Okay currently its 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw right? Wouldnt it be better if both teams were awarded 1 point each ONLY IF goals were scored in a drawn game? 0-0 draw means no points for both teams,1-1 draw,1 point for each team.Any scores above 1-1 would still means a point each for each team. This would be great for fans, cause thats what they came to see beside good flowing football, goals. That would put an end to the term "stalemate".Its good for fans, good for television and overall, great for any league.Teams would try harder to score goals in order not to loose points, scoreless at a game and they would not want to end up pointless...so they will try for goals, for points.Get it?...I think its a great idea....whats fifa's email address?

It advantages the strong clubs, so it would be a very bad idea...
The difference between Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and the rest is already huge...
If for example WBA can play 0-0 against Arsenal, it's a huge success for this team...they deserve their point...with your idea they would have no points...Naaah, bad idea...

I know what you mean dude...but think of it this way,of course,no one wants no points right? WBA will have to work their ass off to score isnt it? It will make the game more open, lets say WBA scores a goal...Arsenal will surely need an immediate response...score a goal...and both team gets a point....and its up for a winner...the full 3 points...

good discussion though...keep it coming...

well if you win 1-0 or post some shutouts, everyone would praise your defense, but if you tie 0-0 your saying its just poor football, what s the difference?

Good point there CSaunders...
If you really want to penalize 0-0 draws, you could only give a point to the team that has the lowest ranking. In that way you make the differences between the top and the rest smaller. But that is very artificial.
What football needs is a Pan-European NBA-style competition.
The NBA-competition is very fair...i like the idea of a salary-cap and even more the draft system where the weakest team gets the first choice. It's not good for a sport if all is dominated by the same teams...people like suspense...
Personally i was delighted by last years CL and the fact that the final was between two outsiders, but lets face it: that was a freak accident (an UEFA will do everything to prevent something similar in the future...).

I personally like the rule. Cuz then it will stop teams from using boring defensive tactics. Its very easy to put 10 men behind the ball and defend all day and then get rewarded a point. This idea is pretty simple, you don't score, you dont get a point.
Sometimes you get too many 0-0 draws where both team go away happy with the point. I mean, if thats what both teams wanted, then why did they even turn up for the match?
