Pap's modding mess (house of placebo?)

Hi there!

Like many others, I have no footy game home at the moment, so I have been trying various things in terms of editing, just for the sake of trying.
I will use this thread to share some of my findings (those that might be not complete placebo) related to FIFA games gameplay.

Feel free to share your discoveries too!

Here is my first one:

The gameplayattribdb.big file, which is supposed to be one of the main gameplay file in older FIFA, can be swaped between some games without crashing them.

Here is three mods for FIFA17 to FIFA19 that use the FIFA16 v1.00 (the demo one is identical) gameplayattribdb.big instead of their respective default ones:

--> I really recommend tring the last one (for 19), I think it is quite impressive how defensive awareness is improved and also how everything feels way more dynamic.

It is supposed to bring a bit of 16 into those games. I used cgfe to export the 16 version and frosty to import it into the frostbite ones. In theory, the same thing could be done for newer frostbite fifas (I haven't 20 installed otherwise I would try it to see if by some miracle it can turn off the 1vs1 shite). I have tried the 18 one into 16 but the game crash on some free kicks and passes and shots are broken (completely powerless).

Thank you, very interesting to try. What about fouls? Does the number of them increase in FIFA 19 with the gameplayattribdb from FIFA 16?

I haven't seen anything spectacular in terms of fouls numbers within my short testing time. I had a pen though in one my two games played.

Amazing find this Pap, thank-you. I've tested across 17, 18 and 19 and I'm definitely finding the defence is much more engaged when using the 16 file. There's less space to operate in and it's more of a midfield game - something you would definitely associate with FIFA 16. Unfortunately we can't try it for 20 or 21 as there seems to be no gameplayattribdb.big in those 2 games anymore - so frustrating as if this got rid of 1v1 we'd know instantly!!!

As of now, I think it works pretty well at least with 17 and 19 (didn't play much with 18).

With 19, I am now able completing several games in a row and enjoying them, where before I was constantly fighting against the urge to turn the game off. I have my half set to 10mins and it now feels a bit short.
The cpu is less prone to quick alien first time pass combination, which were driving me mad before, and also the defences are more aware about what is going on. This makes defending way less frustrating, and also attacking more rewarding. The cpu will now close you down and block shots more often. You definitely have to think more about your passes. The main cons is that passing stats for the cpu are a bit higher than with the default gameplay. But it doesn't necessarily translate in more cpu ball possession. I played against Burnley with United yesterday evening and they had 86% pass completion, but only 42% ball possession.

With 17, the CPU finally is happy to attack and games are way more alive. I was finding the games to be a bit soft without it (I was already thinking my 17 journey was over because of that soft feeling). It is also harder to pass the ball between midfielders at the edge of the cpu box, which often led to easy shots opportunities. Now the cpu really close you down. The game also feels more interesting with more thinking involved.

As for the long run, I hope it doesn't make the game too easy to play against the cpu. I also hope it doesn't erase too much of the good sides of the identity of those games (since 16 is older than frostbite ones, it must have less "features" that are now not accessible anymore for the game). But clearly it doesn't transform those games into some sort of frostbite 16. In 19, the cpu still have different tactical approaches (this is really dliuated in fifa 16). In 17, the cpu still loves to dribble (the cpu barely dribble in 16).

¿Did you notice any changes regarding the ball control? In FIFA 16 it's much more easy to dribble than in FIFA 17/18/19.
I am not sure how much it impacts dribbling. I did manage to dribble in 17 and 19 in my sessions with it. Dribbling is less explosive (quickness of speed change) in those games than in 16. Also in 16 the CPU are sometime doing wrong anticipations (what Matt10 call dda) something that doesn't happen as much in those game. Everything related to the game physics doesn't feel really transformed. It feels like it impact more players involvement, movements, positioning ect...

You really summed it for me. I have to try FIFA 19 again but I am very much enjoying FIFA 17. I have less time to think about the pass because the midfielders are closing me down which makes me either misplace my pass or lose the ball. I bet it's even funner with manual passing on. I will also try it in FIFA 18 and check how well it is. The only problem is for some reason, FIFA 17 is a bit easy for me. I think it has to do with the fullbacks.

@papinho81 Are there any other files you can think of that could be worth trying to transfer from game to game to impact gameplay?
I am not sure but it could worth to give a try to the files inside:
-attribdbgameplay (they are others files in there)
-attribdb
- neuralnet (I just checked the dribble and the pass one. With the exception of the 2 first lines in a hex editor they are absolutely identical between 17 and 16)

After playing a little more with this mod (17 and 19), one of the biggest things from 16 which I'm seeing (and loving) is the way the CPU blocks your passing lanes with multiple players very quickly. It's something which 16 has always done so well and I'm really seeing it on Frostbite now.

I'm having some really good, tough passages of play on 17 right now, you really have to fight to keep hold of the ball. @papinho81 you're a good man!
