Well, why not. I know we have a few Portuguese friends on the boards and others who enjoy following European leagues. I know i enjoy watching the Superliga on Eurogoals. ;)

So the season kicked off the other day. Great start for newcomers Naval.

Penafiel 0-2 Rio Ave
V. Guimarães 0-2 Naval
U. Leiria 0-1 Sp. Braga
Gil Vicente 1-0 Marítimo
P. Ferreira 0-1 Nacional
Sporting 2-1 Belenenses
Académica 0-0 Benfica
FC Porto 1-0 Est.Amadora
Boavista 0-0 V.Setúbal

A couple of points i'd like to raise at this early point. E. Amadora have amusing kits, with those stars on the back of their shirts :) . Also, something i have pondered for a while now, since last season in fact, but are the Roteiro balls in the Superliga extra shiney or is it just me? 8-[ They look very mercurial :-k

Bom dia o meu amigo!

I get my daily dose of Iberian footie antics of this site which is great - http://terceiroanel.weblog.com.pt/

Not happy about Maritimo getting beat - too many changes over the summer imo. Hopefully it'll be as tight a championship as last year.

Can't answer either of your questions i'm afraid mate - although in one store on Madeira they had a white Roteiro ball with black lines which was rather cool.

btw - looks like it not the Galp Superlig anymore as theres been some new sponsor (a betting firm) that's not going down too well.

Re: Portuguese Superliga 2005/2006

Hello Db, i thought you'd pop in.
So do you think Porto have found their true successor to Mourinho in ex AZ man, Adriaanse? He did pretty well with his eredivisie side, and he inherits a reasonable squad at the Dragao.
I too hope for a tight finish. Last season's run in was the closest in Europe.
Another question. What was with Guimaraes' pitch. I was half expecting to see a farmer ploughing the pitch with his tractor
Cheers for the link, i think i may have come across that site before, i remember the long layout of it. Or it was something similar, with all the transfers etc.
Any hopes for Maritimo this season? Europe? ;)

Re: Portuguese Superliga 2005/2006

Hey Professor, the name has changed! again!
It is now called Liga betandwin.com.
betandwin_Topo.jpg

The name is causing quite a stirr here in Portugal because the portuguese law does not allow publicity for gambling. The casinos are complaining in the courts.

Anyways considering the matches on the first day, Porto didn't made a big game, thanks to Estrela da Amadora that covered their back preety good. But the 1-0 win was fair. Till now I'm happy with Porto's coach, He is very strict, and one good example is that Quaresma doesn't even go to the bench for playing to much with the ball in games. We call it "um brinca na areia", or a direct translation would be "one that plays in the sand".

Sporting almost lost 2 points thanks to the n.1 portuguese keeper(?) Ricardo, quite a fluke  (piu piu piu piu piu piu...) I wish I had a video.

Benfica didn't win simply because they didn't score they're chances

And a special mention for newcomers Naval, that won 2-0 with 3 man down! :o

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

I would like to leave here a question regarding a player Porto got, but willl only join the club on january. Anderson, from Gremio Porto Alegre, he's a 17 year old kid (wonderkid?), who porto payed around 5M€ for. I'm surprised porto payed so much for a kid. Everybody in brazil is saying he's the next best thing in brazil.

Can any brazilian or Gremio fan tell me something about this player. I'm just to damm curios about him. 5M€ for a 17 year old! :s

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Didn't Diego come with a bit of expectation too.

Db, i see Maritimo's next game is home to Sporting. I wonder if the result will be like your last ML tie :D

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Yeah Diego had alot of hype around him. He didn't quite lived up to it, but he has talent. I'm hoping an improvement from him this season.

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Udinese pooing on Sporting Lisbon right now, very spectacular Udinese.

2-0, poor goalkeeping by Ricardo for the 2nd goal.

So Sporting Lisbon is again out of the CL. Good going peseiro(Sporting coach).

Hi mate

I hope so!

Well they beat em comprehensively last season - not an easy place to visit the Estadio Dos Barreiros although plans for a new stadium are well on course which looks good but will probably lack some of the charm, atmosphere and views of the old place.

At least they've kept hold of Wenio, Manduca and Van Gaag but sold Tonel to Sporting and Alan to Porto in the summer - he'll probably end up like Leo Lima rotting on the bench or in the stands before getting shipped off to Brazil or something.

It'd be great if they could A) keep the tunover of players down and B) Stop selling their best ones.

Btw - i see Braga won on the opening day away at Leiria which is a decent result.

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Porto is playing tonight against newcomers Naval, who beat Guimaraes last week with 3 man down :S

McCarthy is out with an injury and do is Raul Meireles. Adrianse will probably bet on Postiga for striker and Ibson to cover for Meireles for DMF.

Probable starting 11:

GK- V.Baia
CB- P Emanuel
CB- Ricardo Costa
LB- Cesar Peixoto
RB- Sonkaya

DMF- Ibson
CMF- Lucho Gonzalez
OMF- Diego

LWG- Lisandro Lopez
RWG- Jorginho
CF- Postiga

Also heard that Nelson might take Ricardo's place on Sporting thanks to Ricardo's performances on his last 2 games.

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

NAVAL 2 - 3 FC PORTO
For Naval scored - Bruno Fogaça 55', César Peixoto 86'(own goal);
For Porto scored - César Peixoto 45', 52', Hugo Almeida 82';

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Benfica lost 2-0, on his ground, with Gil Vicente.

Goals were scored by Marcos António, and Anderson(own goal).
And benfica still missed a penalty by Simão.

Man of the Match, was no doubt the Gil Vicente keeper, Jorge Baptista.

Results on day 2 so far:

Naval 2-3 FC Porto
Belenenses 3-1 U. Leiria
Benfica 0-2 Gil Vicente

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Simao started this season like he ended the last one: on a very low form.
Koeman changed from 4-3-2-1 to a 3-4-1-2, and it worked for about 15m, but then it all went down hill. Having 6 players out of position is just insane. The penalty did not exist, but we could've won the game easily, if ti wasn't for keeper Batista. Last season, when playing for Estoril this keeper kept the 2-2 tie against Porto in Dragao with amazing saves. Same thing this time.
5 points lost in 2 games, a shame really. Lets hope Koeman gets 1 or 2 new players and implements a good tactical system to the team.
Sporting next round, if we loose... Well, Koeman might as well leave if we loose against our secular rivals, especially after loosing 5 points.
Porto looks impressive, the team to beat this year.

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Sunday Results :
Rio Ave - V. Guimarães 3 - 1
Sp. Braga Penafiel 1 - 0
Nacional - Académica 2 - 2
V. Setúbal - P. Ferreira 0 - 1
Marítimo - Sporting 1 - 2

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Benfica promised 2 new players till wednesday, one of them seems to be Miccolli.
If they manage to get him, it will be a huge boost to the team. The other one no one knows yet.

Anyway, Nuno Valente left Porto to join Everton, "good luck Valente". I didn't like what the Porto management did with him. They made him choose between the team and the national side. He chose the national side, so he left.
But on the other hand I'm pretty happy with Cesar Peixoto, a left winger that now plays as a Left back. :)

Still one game left to play of day 2, that should be tonight.
E. Amadora - Boavista

And on day 3 there is a big game between Sporting CP and SL Benfica at the Alvalade XXI.

Yeah, I love the anti-play of Gil Vicente, and the ref was in their own best.

He'll see it against Sporting...

Benfica played nice for 15 mins, then it was a complete disgrace. Totally deserved win for Gil Vicente. Don't make excuses for the defeat cause of the ref.

What do you say if a refeere of Lisbon manage a game of your FC Porto, and steal 2 penalty's and you see the other team "burning game time"?

Re: Portuguese Liga 2005/2006

Yes sure, like the penalty benfica got?
Please, I admit sometimes that the ref makes mistakes that makes one fustrated. But I don't use ref as an excuse. But in this case, benfica was a disgrace.

Maybe with Karagounis and Miccoli things will improve.

Porto also got an left back, Marek Cech, 22 year old.
