[question] Best F-1 SIMULATION /// GAME

A good F1 simulator... you could try the now 'Old Skool' Grand Prix 4? one of the best F1 games ever released as it has realisitc physics and a decent crash damage engine for an old game it makes $ony's F1 games on PS2 and PSP look a bit shite. There are also some patches for it to update the cars etc.. There is still a good GP4 Community.

If you likeracing games (albeit not Formula 1), you should try GTR2, which is a fairly recent game and as a simulation the best racing game you can buy (in fact it is way too difficult for me, but the real racing freaks love it).

Stan, thought about that one but is it overly hard? or is it if you get your controls set up perfectly that it becomes decent and its usually that if you make a mistake you get punished? (true to life)

I was now thinking about buying a PS3 (when does it come out???) and getting "F1 06 ps3" its amazing

but I have questions for PS players:

when does Play station 3 come out and how much does it cost?

PS3 for us in Europe its delayed until March 07. Sony's F1 games have a tendancy to be shit so dont expect much. I would stick with mine and deftonesmx's suggestions. Not sure what the cost is in Euro's but in GBP its an extorsion!! £425 for just the console Alone!! no games included.

You will get them dead cheap too the games we have suggested... and they are both very good games. Ignore the fact the graphics are several years old now because the gameplay is very good on both, I have F1 Challenge 1999-2002 and GP4 in my collection at home.

If you like racing games and play them regularly, you should buy it...it's too difficult for me, but i'm not a very good gamer...GTR2 is supposed to be less unforgiving than the first one.
You can also tweak the game to give you help...

The game i suggested earlier ... rFactor has the same (well updated) game engine as F1 Challenge, rFactor was released by ISI and the main purpose was to provide an easy to mod game, think of it as the new F1 Challenge.

It depends how realistic you want the game to be though. Live For Speed even has tyre deformation (tyre sidewalls flexing under stress) check out the pics

I would go for GP4 the game is one of the best around and if your machine can do it X800+ you can put the anti-aliasing up in windows and the game still looks good even to todays standards.

But be sure to get some mods first cos out the box the game is shite and looks terrible.

E.g.

Car textures file out the box is 28mb, my 2006 carset is 172mb.

ok thanks, I bought GP4 and I am thinking about buying f-1 too.

BUT.

about GP4. I am a bit dissapointed because when I drive the car it turns a bit automaticly (left or right) and its too easy to get into a spin.
So for me its just a bit too Automatic :(

If you configure GP4 properley it WONT give you steering assistance. In real life its easy to get into a spin if you try and do the wrong things at the wrong time.

ok thanks, I'll try to configure it (do you mean driving aids, I turned off all of them except automatic gear change)

yup what about f-1 challenge ?
Very good game engine. So good infact that a game called GTR, GT Legends, and GTR 2 all started as a mod for F1 02. It was called GT 2002. Later that mod team became what is now known as SimBin. Their current games (which are considered by many to be the most realistic racing games) are nothing more than a modified version of the F1 challenge game engine. ;)

F1-Challenge is in my collection and its awesome, I also had the PS2 version which had a far better career mode than the PC version did.

ok, I noticed something weird in GP 4.
when I drive with AI they get 7 gears but I only get 6 gears, why is that.???
