Though I've never played a football game besides PES or FIFA, I felt it'd be unfair if we didn't give the multitude of picks in the PSX/early PS2 era a place to be discussed. :P

So I have nothing to say, but maybe others will. Note that I consider ISS to be PES, except the PS2 era games developed by KCEO...

There are tons of footy games especially before 2005-2006, where after only EA and KONAMI survived.I post only a few that i personally have played, i will go to the hard way and not talk about ISS Soccer (snes) or TIF series (ps2) :D .
P.S.: Ok now i saw it , it is for psx/ps2 era so i'm a little bit off-topic :JAY: .

1) Virtual Striker Series
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtua_Striker
i mostly played VS 2 ver.98 and ver.2000.1 (still playing with dreamcast emu)

2)Ronaldo-V-Football

3)Sensible Soccer 2006 - I was too young for the original SWOS series but this is also fun and too cartoonish.

4)Super Sidekicks (if you are the mame-lover) Mostly played SS3-The next Glory.

5)Magnetic Soccer-Nintendo Gameboy (@Orhainmalz i hope you know what a GameBoy is :P :P ) This is hard ok, but it was my very first football video game. Really decent for those years and being younger than 8 years old! :P Despite it is a Tabletop Football game.

6)Soccer 1994?-Nintendo Gameboy , the second football game, i played in my life.

I own a GBC mate, so I know what one is :p
Also I didn't think before PSX. Not sure why, feel free to discuss 8 and 16 bit too here ^^

So we don't have a thread dedicated to the Virtua Striker series? REALLY? :CURSE::RANT::CENSOR::MAD:

Anyway, we shouldn't forget Nintendo World Cup. I had it for Game Boy, actually I think it's the first football game I ever owned (before moving to the dark side and asking my dad to buy me FIFA International Soccer, but that's a story for a different day).

1) Virtual Striker Series
This is indeed a great series. Honestly I tend to prefer the Model 3-era games to the most recent ones, but... Virtua Striker 3 ver. 2002 for GameCube is probably the one I played the most and I still remember many of the players I used to play with... Ferreira (which, along with Kleimann from the ISS series, has to be my all-time favourite fake player), the French striker P. E. Trichet (guess who he was?), the Belgian maestro Van Zeeland... Good old times.

4)Super Sidekicks
Aaaaand another series that almost defined my being a kid there. I missed out on the first game of the series (only played it with MAME in my adulthood) but spent countless hours (and coins) with the second one (yeah, the one in which you could slap the referee if he dared book you and in which keepers celebrated with the 'umbrella' gesture after saving a penalty) and with the third (the Italian upfront duo, Duccio and Pacioli, will forever have a place in my heart ).

Adidas Power Soccer and Football Kingdom are the two that spring to mind for me.

Michael Owen was ion the cover of a game that I think was made by Codemasters back in the late 90's too IIRC, can't remember the name but I remember playing a demo of it quite a bit on one of the OPSM demo discs.

It's frightening how many footy games there were back in the day.
Actua Soccer and Three Lions for PS1. Club Football and Red Card for PS2. Just to name ones not already mentioned.
There was a game had ton of classic World Cup teams but I can't remember what it was called.
