The United States Thread "Road to World Cup 2006"

Holy shit, US finally beat a team ranked over 105th by more than 2 goals!

Good game though.

LOL. The key is that this team is finally playing flowing, pacey footy when it wants to, and that it has the players to do it. And if Eddie Johnson can be the closer this team needs up front, than it could be scary what this team can accomplish by 2010, if not 2006. :applause:

OH SHIT! I wasnt able to watch the match last night, but thats the same jersey we used to BEAT ENGLAND in the 1950 world cup!!! NICE!!!

2:30 pm live on espn2, looks like we have a starting lineup, cmon boys lets get the win

During the U.S. side's final training in Coral Gables, Fla., on Monday morning before departing for Trinidad that evening, Arena pitted what appeared to be the starting unit against a substitutes team in an 11 v. 11 scrimmage. If that is the case, the "grey" team that could take the field on Wednesday afternoon had a back four of Cory Gibbs on the left, Eddie Pope and Carlos Bocanegra in the central defense, and Steve Cherundolo as the right back. In the midfield, Pablo Mastroeni lined up in a holding role behind Landon Donovan, flanked by DaMarcus Beasley on the right and Eddie Lewis on the left. Up front, the pair of Brian McBride and Eddie Johnson played together.

Is George Weah Jr. going to play for USA or is he going to play for the country his dad did?
the question is, are we going to ask him..... him and rossi both qualify for the US, rossi has stated he wants to play for italy, wheah most likeley would play for us as his national team is in shambles, jemal johson for blackburn is also american and would qualify for us, as well as kenny cooper(manu) and freddy adu we have alot of young options, how is he doing for ac milan?

Weah might play for his country. His dad is like god in Liberia, they have statues of him everywhere. His dad might pressure him to play with his home country for pride.

he already has played for the u-20s

U-20 MNT FINISH SECOND CAMP OF 2004, GO 0-2-1 AGAINST MLS CLUBS: The U.S. Under-20s fell 1-0 to the Columbus Crew last Thursday (Feb. 26) to cap off a week-long training camp at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. During the second camp of the year for the U-20s, Thomas Rongen’s team played two other matches, falling to the Colorado Rapids 6-1 (Feb. 24) and tying the Crew 2-2 in an earlier match (Feb. 22). After Columbus took the lead on a goal by Jeff Cunningham, the U.S. had its chances to tie, but couldn't find the back of the net. George Weah, Jr., who scored the tying goal against the Crew in their first match of the week, almost scored his second goal with the U-20s a few minutes after coming on for Jamie Watson. Chad Barrett served in a perfect cross to Weah who had gotten free from his marker, but he shot was off target. In the first match with the Crew on Feb. 22, the Under-20s took the lead in the third minute after Barrett received a through ball from Christian Jimenez, got behind the Columbus defense and slotted home his shot past a diving Matt Haefner. Columbus bounced back to take the lead with two goals in four minutes, getting one right before the half from Ross Paule in the 44th minute and the other two minutes into the second half from Jamal Sutton. The U.S. forced the draw in the 74th minute when Watson’s cross found Weah, Jr, who beat Haefner, who was out of position after attempting to clear the service. Two days later, the U-20s struggled against a superior Colorado Rapids squad that played extremely well and scored four goals in the first half en route to a 6-1 victory. Former U-17 MNT forward Jordan Cila paced the Rapids with two goals, while David Castellanos, Chris Henderson, John Spencer and Zach Kingsley each added one. The lone goal for the U.S. came from midfielder Mariano Arrua in the 63rd minute after the Rapids had taken a 5-0 lead. The goal started as Danny Szetela dribbled down the right wing and found Watson near the six-yard box, who hit a one-timer on goal that ‘keeper Scott Vallow got a piece of. Vallow’s save deflected off the post and landed to the feet of Arrua, who easily knocked the ball into the net.

Does he play alongside Adu for the under 20's?
i beleive so, but adu belongs behind the forwards, so they need a new running mate, has he gotten any first team action for ac milan?

Nope, maybe when he turns 17 and is a potential star.... he might be played for friendlies or useless League games at the end of the season.
oh wow he isnt even 17, didnt know that... future is looking bright

Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Nice 2nd goal. Whos eddie johnson? They said something about him scoring 4 in his last 4 games.
he is probably our next transfer to europe, he actually has 5 in 3 it think... he got the golden boot in the last youth world cup,(i think), he plays for dallas in the MLS, he has all the tools, speed, size, skill, he could be a great one for the future...

Eddie Johnson kept up his incredible run of goals for the United States in another World Cup qualifier, leading the Americans to a 2-1 win at Trinidad and Tobago. Johnson has six goals in just four international appearances, and is the only player to score in each of his first four games with the U.S. squad.

Eddie Johnson looked impressive yesterday. The kid's only 20, right? I think he'll play for Dallas this upcoming season in the MLS then end up in England within the next year or two. Good stuff team USA.

Yeehaw cowobyz. . the thread is back! \\:o/

Nice game from the US in trying conditions. Sloppy goal allowed by the defense and Keller but overall, its an away result in tricky playing conditions.

I am so stoked by Eddie Johnson's development. Folks have raved about him for the past 2 years, and last year he took the MLS scoring title. The kids has 6 goals in 4 games, including a 20 minute hat trick. He has MCbride's size, Beasley's pace and a game all his own. I dont wanna dream too hard but i think he is the attacjing player we have sorely needed to compliment our midfield's growing creativity.

He trained with ManU for a month after the MLS season and has been trottin' around Europe, so i expect him to take off after playing one moire season in the MLS.

With the US knocking Jamaica outta the WC qualifiers, we are as close to a lock on a WC spot as we have ever been. We would really have to fuck up to not qualify now.

NEXT GAME VS MEXICO!!
