Justin Fashanu came out in the early 90's, he proceeded to kill himself.
I don't think it'll ever be truly accepted, but really, does it make any difference whatsoever to how people play football? Noone should give a fuck how footballers, or anyone in general spend their time out of their job.
Mind you, if Messi came out as gay, you'd probably have everyone trying to say they're gay and imitate him because he's so good at football.
Swedish Glenn Hyséns son Anton just came out as gay! No elite player yet though.

Pique is dating Shakira right now. I doubt he's gay lol.
And Zlatan, I hate that prick but to be honest, I expect him to be the LAST guy to be gay. In fact, he's probably the homophobic type!
This Anton guy is a player in the top Swedish division ?
No prob, he's biPique is dating Shakira right now. I doubt he's gay lol.

No it shouldn't matter at all. And I agree with you. Sadly, I don't think it'll ever be accepted in a sport like this especially. :/
People who weren't even gay got a lot of stick for being suspected of it. Remember Graeme Le Saux? Imagine if you actually ARE gay and you see players being ostracized like that! You'd NEVER come out!
Anyway, it shouldn't matter, but one can't help but wonder. I don't know about others, but I personally am genuinely curious. I mean of ALL these players, some MUST be gay. Well who are they? Surely not ALL of them are straight!
Messi isn't gay though. Seen him and his girlfriend.
Ahahahaha He is Gai
I remember Le Saux versus Robbie Fowler and how that all boiled over, that was all 'cause Le Saux enjoyed reading and going to plays and stuff like that, completely different to other footballers at the time who basically went to the pub when they weren't on the pitch.
I also remember an article around the time of the World Cup last summer suggesting at least some of the German team are indeed gay, obviously none have come out but with Gomez urging them to maybe they've spoken in private?
Elton John had a wife remember
I had my doubts about Gutti...not that it matter of course...
On second thoughts it does matter in a way. If a football star would out himself, that would be something huge...
I also still remember all the fuss about poor Graeme Le Saux just because he liked reading and art...that says a lot about the other professional football player. I would like to read his autobiography.
Another: do you guys have many gay colleagues at work. I have two lesbian colleagues and at two homosexual colleagues who have outed themselves and never had the least trouble...
I agree that assuming the homosexuality publicly might do more harm than good to the individual, on the other hand a 'mass outing' campaign from footballers and athletes overall could certainly help to diminish the prejudice, especially among kids who have those players as rolemodels.
