eFootball PES 2021 Discussion Thread (CONSOLES)

to be fair, again, i haven't been playing constantly but after a couple more games the AI does seem more varied than i remember - shots from outside the area are more than what i remember - i think pes will be a game where i will dip in and out for a short cup campaign as im enjoying me league in fifa
thats the sad part we have to enjoy our LEAGUES in fifa cos ML is light years behind career mode, one of the biggest reasons iv stopped buying pes, id be able to deal with the scripting a lot more if ML was on par with career mode, sadly we only gonna get a few useless cutscenes which wont affect on or off field for pes22, im not expecting much at all to be honest, sadly alot of people have high expectations for pes 22 and they will be let down hard

Well to be honest, i have 2021 since LITE came out and disc version since 2 or 3 weeks ago. By few matches i played and based on the general consecus by reading feedback from other players, i do not feel the big need to jump over it, since i have a long running save on PES2020. So i have it stand-by mode for now. Latter i may decide how i will edit my OF and what will i create. By now i just update player transfers and stats to PES 2020, for those who had an "upgrade" on PES 2021.

What i noticed editing wise, is that a lot players, even when they have better stats in 2021 in comparison to 2020 and new skills added, there is a bit haircut in "COM playing styles". Those traits are supposed to work when AI is controlling the COM players, yours ot their and are responsible for the "individuallity" variation.

So i keep on finding players that had 2 special skills and 2~4 COM playing styles last year, and while this year they have 7 skills they have 0 COM styles.
Maybe the database editors try to cater for the SKILL GAP crowd, that hates autoblocks and whatever automatic uses the AI as a tool.
Unfortunatelly this affects also the offline (ML/League) players, stripping the player variation and leveling the COM controlled players.

I think the reason PES never really totally overhauled ML is cos' people always loved the sheer simplicity of it. Older PES versions, which lacked the editing capabilities, always centred in taking that team of defaults and grinding results, taking seasons to progress.

Now days, with all the social media interaction around footy and rumours every 2 seconds, people want more 'off the pitch'. FIFA has that but it is at the expense of gameplay.

I'm not saying PES21 is perfect, it still has plenty of faults and things that need sorting, but I can handle the stripped back ML if I enjoy playing the games. Once you get past season 1 and your TS goes up, I can honestly say I do enjoy it.

"COM playing styles" became useless in recent pes( I think it was started from pes2019? pes2018 was the last pes game I saw ai dribble with skills)
even you edited all players to have all the traits now you just couldn't see any dribbling from ai
maybe long ranger and long pass traits still work a bit but I am pretty sure other traits related to dribbling are useless now

ΕSPECIALLY this Long RAnger COM style, is receiving a big attack. I am seeing, it is removed from almost all my favourite value-for-money players, that did have it in the past.
An example:

NETO MOURA with Long Ranger

Neto Moura without Long Ranger

I start hoping that it is a bug of PESMASTER, and not real thing in gaem, cause it is removed from a lot of players i use in ML... :(.. But then i find others with 2 or more COM styles , removed in 2021.

Very quiet on here these days ☺️ any more impressions on the latest update? Do you lose all your saved team tactics if you apply the update?

Feels like the game plays the same on the new update, I've not noticed anything that's changed to be fair.

Not sure on tactics, I never apply the updated club or national squads in the Data Pack, so guessing its left untouched. I've done the transfers myself and made so many youth players for quite a few teams, if I apply the squad update, it puts them all into free agents and takes about 3 hours to transfer them back.

Finally played the new DP4 after 110 days of not playing any Pes 2021 due to Pes 5 and 6 xD
I noticed no difference
Seemed like the same game I played in December

Had enough of ML...the computer scores every fk which is near to goal. Every single time... can anyone suggest any single player modes which are a bit fairer? I play on manual

Before he take it...take control of ur goalkeeper and move him a bit just before he kicks it. From letting in 1 in 3 freekicks, i now let in maybe 1 in 25. Solves it

When you say move him, do you mean literally just move him a tad on the line? Does it matter how or where you move him?

In pes 2019 it was a horrible trait vs the AI as the CPU players with it would spam shots from 18 yards and ruin the attacking play (along with the dreaded low cross) maybe this was part of their solution to make it a more scarce trait

When you say move him, do you mean literally just move him a tad on the line? Does it matter how or where you move him?

I dont just move my keeper a tad, i take full control and actually press square to make a save.. And id let in about 1 in 20 due to stuffing up.
so..
1. at freekick, i take manual control of my keeper. But leave him where he is and dont move until the kicker is just about to kick - otherwise, if you move to one side too early, the fk taker simply goes to the side of goal most open.

2. just before fk taker kicks (last few steps.... not too late though, otherwise you wont stop the really powerful kicks... you have to time it), i move my keeper to the most open side of the goal, ie. the end the fk will always go for. I hold the stick in that direction, and press/keep tapping the square button. As a result you are saving with keeper manually (even though the keeper would probably still save automatically if ball goes directly in line with him). The benefit in this method also includes the wall jumping... ie. the square press not only manually saves as a keeper, but also makes wall jump.... In fact, many times i do this, the wall actually jumps and stops the ball from even reaching my keeper. Guess it also depends on fk taker, and how good he is at getting it over the wall. Either way, my keeper is there waiting and usually saving.

Note: i did concede one yesterday, as I just wasnt quick enough with my keeper compared to how powerful a kick the fk taker was... some really good fk takers make it it more difficult due to power alone.

According to PES manual, and AFAIK the wall charges down with :square: , it is :circle: you need to press in order the wall to jump.

Players in the defensive wall can either jump (press
ctrl_btn_ps4_circle.png
) or charge down a free kick (press
ctrl_btn_ps4_square.png
). Look at the ball's elevation before deciding what to do.

After the latest patch I'm seeing more variety in passing and shooting. It feels less stiff in general as well. More fouls from the AI, and you don't seem to get stuck to defenders when u go near them dribbling. Very impressed with what I've seen so far.

As for ML scripting, I stopped playing ages ago. Playing league mode seems to lessen this. Its ML without the bs. Plus it includes the cup games like a normal league season, rather than being just league games. And there's no weird transfer going ons to annoy me

Thanks for clarifying the buttons, yes youre right about the square / circle etc.

In regards to choosing which one you want based on real time elevation.....thats kind of impossible to do.. ie. deciding what to do based on balls elevation... the kick happens too quick for you to make that kind of decision. You pick one and go with it.. maybe based on how far the kick is out perhaps.. but i think both work fine..
And yes you are right regarding the square charging down.. thats what i do (i dont jump - i made a mistake when i said that, since i definitely tap the square which leads to the my wall usually charging down the ball).

Anyways, ill post a video example or 2 on how i save freekicks these days.. ill try playing vs a team with a good fk specialist.

Totally agree with the variety in passing and shooting.. also ive seen some animations not yet seen before... players clearances and mistimed kicks ets.
I have to admit, once dling dlc 4.0, i did immediately implement Holland's FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS DEFINITIVE EDITION. But all i can say, it feels so much different to how this game did last week (pre-patch).

Ive also noticed the ai (special dribblers and shooters) will take me on more, and shoot from far out way more often...ie. as a defender, you really need to focus on closing the players down a bit quicker now.. or certain guru players can be lethal. ill post 2/3 clips showing decent goals or chances from the ai in a tick.

Added 3 videos:

Apologies if this needed to go to PC thread, but i think it still relates here as we are discussing dlc4.0 variations etc.

Just FYI, it was not me said about elevation. I assume the first reply goes to the guy said about it and was something messed with your clipboard ? :) :D :P

Ahhh.. EDIT: saw now, it is from the copy paste of the PES official manual guide..not my words, but 100% My fault.. Ye I agree, this is impossible. :)

Yeah there's definitely more animations happening that I don't recognise. It's like they unlocked the game with this last patch. Seeing a lot more in the way of contextual skill as well. I only ever dribble with left stick and sprint and I'm having joy knocking it past people more. As a result I'm getting in more headers from crosses.

I agree the AI dribble and shoot more, I had Robbie Brady for Burnley causing me problems dribbling against me.

The flight of the ball seems to have much more curve in the right moments now too, I'm pinging long balls across pitch and seeing some lovely results. Really happy with this patch

Re: DLC 4, I started a Master League on the Xbox last night - the game is free on Game Pass, and I'm a glutton for punishment. :D

Definitely seeing more fouls than I did last time I played (maybe DLC 2). That was really nice to see. I'm sure I'll feel cheated soon, when the AI does its usual "I broke your leg but I didn't mean to so it doesn't count, play on"... But not yet.

In terms of teams dribbling more etc... Well, I played against Man City (on full manual, on Professional and Top Player), and all I saw was relatively simple passes from CB to CM, CM to CF, CF back and forth with a midfielder or two, then a cross and a shot.

(Superstar tended to be a little different - CM to CB, CB with a 100-yard pass to CF and then some first-time passes that eventually result in a goal.)

Whilst I did think to myself (excluding Superstar) "I don't think that misrepresents City", I also thought to myself "when Sterling gets the ball, he's just getting rid of it straight away". One of "next-gen" PES's biggest problems, I think.

As I get more used to manual, and can perhaps achieve a pass accuracy over 75% (but then again I am playing with Newcastle), maybe things will change...

Thank you for this mate. Got to be better than just leaving it to the wLl

Thank you for this mate. Got to be better than randomly leaving it for the wall/goalie to deal with. Even if I never save them, if it helps minutely it's still better.

Just don't move to early , the AI will always go over the wall opposite side to the keepers initial position but if you move too early it will score in the unguarded side , I always move during the run up , AI won't change once it's started the run up

People (outside of Evo-Web) tell me I'm a caveman, always playing offline, and that it's a bit sad. Yet there is such a huge part of the community (for both games) that don't really care that much about football and are just playing to win, and it becomes (in FIFA) "who knows the most trick combos and has the most money to spend on packs" and (in PES) "who knows the most exploits" or "who can ping-pong pass the best by just hammering the X button".
It's two cavemen then if you also consider me.

Problem is, we still play these games as they were football because they seem like football at first sight... And because we want to replicate what we see on TV (and what we used to see at the stadium, good old days).

To be successful at these games, though, you should play them like you would play an arcade game: know the most powerful moves and the easiest ways to defeat an opponent, repeat them to death until you've mastered them, and you'll have an advantage.

I always think about Virtua Striker 2 version '98 when this discussion pops up (and from time to time it does): that game was an over-the-top arcade game that had a bug that would allow you to consistently score from 35/40 metres (and even above at times) and I remember often playing games that would end 5-4 because all of my friends (me included) knew that exploit. It was fun because we all knew that and we all were OK with using it, but it was an exploit nonetheless.
This is exactly how most of the people online play "competitive" football games nowadays. They completely removed the "sports" part from them, they just treat them as games.
