Hi Folks

With the release of the excellent PES 2012, JustPES is making a comeback - and now it is ProEvoNights.Com. If you're not familiar, ProEvoNights.Com is the website for all your PES tactical editing needs. Line-ups, formations, playing styles, tactics, sliders - all the back end grey matter stuff in PES 2012.

I'm expecting to get the game tomorrow. As soon as the game comes out, I'll post my long review of the game and then the editing can begin! Expecting your support!

Klashman69 - Where are you mate?

Fantastic! This was great last year. I greatly enjoyed your tactics. I look forward to seeing what you'll be bringing us this year.

That's great! Yesterday, I changed the default tactic for Barcelona – I used the Manne and Klashman69 tactic – and it was fantastic. Altough they didn't keep possession of the ball (wich seems to be a problem in PES 2012), they did some unbelievable plays. Without the ball, they played exactly like Barça.

Will be interested to read your thoughts. It's my early impression that tactical options are more limited compared to last year and that the effects don't translate as well onto the pitch.

Thanks all!

Though the primary objective of the website is tactics, playing styles and strategies, it's not always about these stuff. You remember in PES 2011, 'allot attack' was actually long ball and 'long ball' was actually all out attack. Pro difficulty gives you a more realistic simulation that top player. Exhibition plays more like a sim than the league/cup. The game plays very smoothly in 480p. Somethings like that. Due to negligence, bad translation and poor communication - there are always hidden gems in Pro Evo and that need to be unearthed and shared with all. That's also something that we will cover in this website.

Hi Klash! Was looking for you. JustPES is now PESCoach. With 2012, the website for PES-related tactical debates is back. Hoping that you can continue your stellar work here too!

yes, just saw it, well i like doing tactics but I'm going to need a lot of help if we are to do full leagues etc....

People at times are getting the wrong idea as I'm a sort of guru, master overlord of all PES tactics when really i just have a good understanding of what each setting does really.

I will also try and put some tactic settings for online to help people play in a certain way (long ball, counter, possession etc..)

One thing about CPU tactics that I'd like to know, is when they use them. You can assign 4 Preset Tactics to each team, so when do they use each one? Do they use the first assigned, or is it different for home/away and/or leading/behind?

This was played on proffesional, -1 speed, passing assistance i think 0.

You get more time on the ball compared to them on PES 2011, but now they are smarter in attack and look to take you on more.

What i noticed is they won't robotic like pass it around if you have a offensive tactic set against them. If you try take them on, they will look to counter you. Thing is i tired to take them on and they just cut through you like a knife :CONFUSE:

Player support: 0
Support Range: 0
Position Switch: 0
Attacking Style: 20
Pressing: 20
Defensive Line: 20
Compactiviness: 0

To see them dominate, logically you would set your team up defensively, they will take you on, they will play a long ball every now and again but most importantly they will try build play up, using clever passing moves, they will pass backwards if you close off their options, they won't steam up the pitch in a hurry every attack :)

this isn't perfect, but it's the best settings for now :) , i will play around with position switch, attacking style and Compactiviness later :)

First formation already! Wow! Mightn't Barcelona play better with the players set wider.

Plus, on 2011, Alves worked well played as an RMF, nearly as high as Pedro. Admittedly he was often caught out of position, but so too is he in real life, and, if Barcelona's possession game is recreated accurately, this shouldn't matter, again, like real life. Also, personally, in 2011, I thought Messi played fantastically as an advanced AMF.

All things aside though, thanks for the work already. You guys made a fantastic difference to the game last year. :)

I noticed when moving the players closer, they played less long balls and played more close passing, also the front three used to make some lovely movements, switching positions off the ball :)

Pes 2012 is very different to 2012 in how the Ai set themselves up. On 2011 you needed at times to force the players wide on the chalkboard or they would just cram next to eachover in the middle. In 2012 the full backs and players move wide and around the pitch with more intelligence so it's not really needed :) Also teh full backs bomb forward by their individuallity.

hey klashman and bluechamp,
I am willing to help create tactics if we can do italy, spain or france. I think I can do cantania based on the match this morning. If we assign certain teams to each other maybe we can get a real good set of tactics. I just need to understand for this year what the different tactics mean. Klashman can you re-post your understanding of what each setting does? Also I would love to understand when defensive high line is employed, when your team is in possession or when they are defending? Also what program are you using to grab the formation screen?

Let me know guys, I would love to get a few leagues done...

PES 2012 tactic sliders breif guide.

Possession Game = Attack, working the ball primarily on the ground.
Long Ball = Counter attack, defenders sit deep and launch long passes up field tot he wingers and strikers
Quick Counter = High pressure, especially from the strikers. Quik disposession off opposition.
All out Attack = Gung ho style, long balls!
All out defence = Everyone gets behind the ball. sticks to defensive duties.

Player support:

So this basically this dictates how teammates move around the ball carrier, so it's correct in it's called player support, where it's confusing is offensive and defensive.

So values 1-6, what they do is make players provide options sideways and many backwards 'safe options' to the ball carrier. So with Barca for example, this is set to 0, so it makes Barca play a lot of safe, backwards, sideways passes, So overall it means, 'slow orientated build up'.

values 7-13 (balanced) Just means teams will attack normally and player on the ball as standard look for options ahead of them unless the player isn't in clear space, teammates won't always run ahead of the ball carrier.

values 14-20 means fast attacking, team mates always look to get ahead of the ball carrier and the team is encourages to look only for forward passes!

Support Range:

Support range shows how close the players stay to around the ball carrier, so values 1-6 mean the players keep close together, (Barcelona Arsenal) it's useful for short passing game, tiki taka etc..

7-13 is standard

14-20 means players spread away from the ball carrier, this is useful for teams that counter, and teams like Stoke etc.. for long balls, Long passing game hoofball etc..

Position Switch

Position switch dictate how much freedom players have to temporarily play in different designated positions or switch places with players in similar positions.

1-6 means player rarely if ever switch positions (tactically disciplined)

7-13 means players will now and gain switch with players in a similar position, so for example the left central midfielder and right central midfielder or two strikers will change the sides they are playing, same with centre backs even.

14-20 is similar to that above but If a player finds himself out of position he will then take up the nearest position designated for a while, the drop back to his designated position.

So for example if a center back charges forward, if he ends up in midfield he will stay there for a bit, then move back, same with striker coming back to defend. It's built to give you the option to give your players the choice to swap around a bit in bid to confuse the opposition and say if a center back is getting the better of a striker, maybe swap for a secound with a winger and see if it confuses him.

Attacking Style:

Attacking style is quite important for player runs and general player movement when attacking.

1-6 means players will drift and congregate out in wide positions to support the ball carrier in making attacking moves out wide

7-13 (balanced) players will maintain their shape

14-20 players will congregate more in the middle, and wide men for example will come inside to offer support through the middle.

Pressing

Pressing is both how intense your team presses the oppositions ball carrier and also i've noticed a zonal element to this.

1-6 (loose) makes players stand off the ball carrier and the player will focus much more and working with his teammates as a unit.

7-13 players, won't actively close down the opposition, they will tend to hond shape unless the opposing ball carrier enter is, well 'zone' (Zonal marking) Maybe.

14-20 tight players will actively close down the opposition, 14-20 dictates how intense they move out of their formations shape to meet the ball carrier

Defensive Line:

Self explanatory really

1-6 Deep

7-13 Normal

14-20 High

Compactiviness:

This dictates how closely compacted your team is when closing in around the ball carrier

1-6 The team forms up as a unit very tightly in the center of the pitch

7-13 Normal

14-20 The team spreads out around the ball carrier.

Finally you should now that: 1-6 and 14-20 dictate how extreme you want your team style to be for each parameter so 14 is say relatively far from the ball carrier and 20 is very far etc..

7-13 Dictates you want a balance but with a slight favor towards a parameter. So 7 or 8 would mean your players your players would move slightly out wide, and say 11 12 would make them move slightly towards the middle etc..

I hope you can all use this to create tactics for other teams :)

But Klash, there is no possession off and def this time, we have possession game, all out attack and all out defense, and of course long ball and counter attack, plus standard.

Klash - I'm trying out a number of things particularly on the build up speed. The challenge is this:

When you set player support to zero, what happens is the forwards keep running forward while the rest of the team is staying behind. In proper build-up play, a number of players from the team should be involved and this does not happen with player support at zero.

I think it also has got to do with the values of the player individually. The next thing I would check is to set the attack level of the individual players (attackers primarily) at just one bar (instead of the default three bars). You can also check this out and report. Cheers!

I used those Barca tactics and played against them with Bilbao...

I have never took such a hiding in all my days playing against a mid-skill level AI. Xavi, Iniesta and Messi tore me to shreds! Lost 3-0 and then 2-0 with Iniesta in the second game in particular playing scarily life-like.

I had the better of possession but only because I was forced to play backwards because their pressing was so damn effective all over the pitch and not in a videogamey way. They cut off so many passes and providing I wasn't lunging in and leaving gaps (I set up to contain them as best possible) they were knocking it about calmly and picking their moments to go up through the gears. Liquid Football

Excellent... 2 questions though:

1_ Do you know if there is a pattern to how the AI changes between preset tactics?
(ie preset2 is when they are losing, preset3 is when they are ahead etc)

2_ If I edit the tactics, will that reflect in my ongoing ML?

At _2)
Not sure for 2012, but judging by the previous experience from 2011, they won't reflect in ongoing ML. You'll have to start new one. And another experience from 2011 which may have the same effect in 2012 - even if you prepare new tactics for all teams, CPU will eventually change them (probably to accommodate to new lineups, after couple of seasons of buying and selling players)

cheers, it sounds as if the AI is actively altering its tactics according to the players it has. I actually think that is great, but then I was under the impression that it made its transfers according to its tactics, so its sort of an egg-chicken kind of thing :CONFUSE:

My impression is that CPU is making most of the 'big' transfers according to the overall rating or something like that. Doing it according to the tactics would be awesome, but I doubt that transfer AI is that sophisticated.

Another factor which may influence CPU transfers (again, judging by the 2011 experience) were team finances - since PES doesn't allow you to operate with cash balance below zero, most of the big teams (Barca for example) are forced to sell their most expensive stars sooner or later. Salaries of top players were pretty much as in real life, but income structure (prize money, sponsors, etc.) simply didn't allow you to operate squads full of 85+ players longer than one or two seasons. Salaries and infrastructure expenses would simply eat up your entire budget after one or two seasons, leading you to bankruptcy. Unless you won pretty much everything and then some :). I believe that was one of the reasons why there were lots of nonsense star transfers from CPU - in one of the campaigns Messi, Xavi and Ibra went to Bayern at the end of the first season.

Well about the budget thing, I have managed to find a way (CHEAT) that actually lets you establish a high skilled squad for free, and then you can sell them for very high amounts. (I like playing with classic players)

Whenever you unlock a Classic Team (or a classic players pack) those players appear instantly in your ML as Free Agents, and there is a short amount of time where no high ranked teams make any offer for them and you can get them for free as long as you have enough credit to pay their wages.

So unlocking a classic team or 3-4 classic players pack during off transfer season can get you great players.

Am I proud of my shameless exploitation of the game? NO.

Am I enjoying the game more this way?

I think so.

:)

Too bad CPU isn't smart enough to use that trick :) But then again, enabling classics in ML isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I'll be messing around with Napoli over the next few days and post my impressions. This is a team I know inside and out in real life and am curious to try and replicate their style on PES12.
