Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

Probably the first game I've played in years where you have to think outside the box..

Case in point..mission 11 where you have to assassinate the skull assassin..at first it seems impossible without a tranquillised scoped rifle as you can't within a 100 yards without being shot or the assassin countering your movement..

How's it done..well you use to two airdrops two knock the assassin out!..

Only played a couple hours very late tonight, so maybe I wasn't in the best mood to judge, but while gameplay seems very, very good, the story and character development points to be stupid and shallow as hell, the ego and childishness of Kojima is growing, I think I saw his name 17 times in 2 hours, pathetic.

And playing an infiltration game where you put people on balloons and then they scream when they go up is just lame.

do it with a goat!

did u know you can set chopper music when its arriving? :BRMM:

It will be worth it..just make sure you have a hour free for the intro as your barely touch the controller sticks!(might be a late night or early morning...great cinematics though..

Stellar game:))

I ended up telling my boss at 2pm that I had a...... thing and had to leave asap. Was home by 230pm and booted this bad boy up. Lastnight past 11pm I was freeing K. (dont want to spoil)

I absolutely love this game but my OCD requires me to inspect every inch of the Afghan mountains.

Wow..you played 2 hours and your already judging the story..and where's the character development you talk of in just two hours?..I've played the game since last Friday and I've barely scratched the surface..

It's also a resource management game, where you can pull soldiers and inventory from the battlefield...you can't blatantly tap a parachute on a enemy in plain view without creating a alert!..

Kojima is bonkers,no doubt, but the game is cinematic hence each mission being a episode and hence the credits..

A lot of what you highlight was already revealed well before release so if airlifting troops out of the field and items seems to ruin your immersion then your not getting the logic and mechanics of the game..

Humour also a massive pre-requisite and a open mind, this isn't your A typical poo faced western title(ie takes itself to seriously).

Don't get me wrong, I think that the gameplay parts of the game are awesome and some cinematics are very well done, specially the action sequences are exciting. Overall I'm sure it may be one of the best games this season, and potentially one of the best Metal Gears purely in terms of gameplay.

But... the character definition is poor, stereotype galore that takes itself too seriously even if there are awkward humor moments here and there. A game where the few women who appear are always showing their tits, it's that kind of character definition.

Hey, I know 90% of the games out there are like this unfortunately, but coming from The Witcher 3, Kojima definitely looks childish. It totally killed Metal Gear IV for me, for instance, while in Snake Eater there was a lot more balance and the script made total sense from start to finish.

But hey, I hope to stand corrected the more I play, I really do!

Your welcome to critique the game, that's your right..it just came across more like a internet blanket view rather then someone who had experienced a few days of play..

I'm looking for escapism and sand box gameplay..not exciting characters and plot twists(are wait for fallout5 for that, something more celebral in that sense)..

It does what it states on the tin and then some..I love being titalated by females and I want a pseudo 80s style macho action game that's artistic, bonkers and at times completely off the wall.

Ironically it never forgets it's a game!

Cardboard box anyone?

I rolled my eyes pretty hard at Quiet prior to release, and it does seem to be widely agreed that the costume is unnecessary - any rationalisation of it being a critique of female video-game characters doesn't really seem to tally with the execution, or the man's prior record.

I also find most of the plot to be pretty preposterous now that I'm a grown man. Thankfully, as opposed to MGS4, by and large it sounds like the plot takes a backseat to your own personal narratives this time - which is great news. Far Cry 2 is my all-time favourite game for those unscripted, self-generated little adventures that play themselves out; MGS V sounds like it's far surpassed anything before it in that regard.

Won't be able to play this until Friday night; I can't bloody wait.

After a couple of days familiarizing myself with controls ect it is obvious the game demands intelligence from its players plain and simple.

I was furiously looking for an objective from atop a hill when I was spotted which led me to jump down to another rock ledge and wait out the enemy search.

I went into the battle half cocked as usual and to preserve the overall game play I am not reading guides or youtubing just purely enjoying the game for what it is.

Anyway the way the rock ledge was perfectly situated 10 meters from the objective I had to destroy so I threw a grenade blew it up and didn't move when the whole camp was alerted to the blast.

Had to wait and I was more than willing to wait for about 10 real time minutes because there was still guards running rampant trying to find me when all of a sudden a sand storm rolled in so I smile a wide one jump down from the ledge and was surprised myself when I alerted a guard the sand storm was still helpful because I only took a couple of hits made it out of the camp alive and found a cozy spot about 400 meters up a ridge where I listened to David Bowie's "Man who sold the World" till nightfall and then crawled back into the base to destroy the second objective.

Like another said escapism at its finest.

The Witcher3 is still my GOTY for a lot of personal reasons.

This however is Hideo's Magnum Opus God Bless that man for being an 80's baby like myself, and although in the early 80's I was 4 or 5 and this guy was 16 17 his love for the decade is really evident.

Right, I've played this for about 2 hours now.

Firstly, the Prologue: What the f*ck was going on there? I created a face and features that took around 20 minutes and I'm pretty sure having got into the main game now that exercise was pointless (unless it's part of the online system which I won't even be venturing into).

Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the opening "scene", even though I was baffled by most of it.

I'll skip to getting on my horse and opening up the "real world" now: Wow. I mean, as soon as the game gives you full control you simply have to pan around and take in those visuals; absolutely astonishing detail and atmosphere. I actually said to my girlfriend, "Look at the detail in those rocks," to which she replied, "Go and look at the detail in the rocks outside the house." Touche, but this is a video game. It looks incredible.

I'm still getting used to the buttons and it's a little fiddly at the moment, but so far it's looking like it could be a hugely entertaining experience. I'm very aware that there are a plethora of unlocks for the guns and vehicles and and and... but that little silenced pistol is doing it's job for the moment. I've infiltrated the first base camp on the map and that's where I've got to.

One thing that is frustrating, and it's purely down to ME and not the game as such, is that I'm always wanting to explore everything incase there's a pickup or information or valuable that I've missed. It's very time consuming, but as I said, that's my mindset unfortunately.

Overall, and purely based on the first couple of hours, this is damn impressive. Damn impressive.

there is no online feature...yet. Metal Gear Online will launch on october 5th(january it is for PC). No idea if PP includes it and a patch will open the feature or is it a seperate game for extra money. and yeah i think the avatar is just for that mode. God i hope online mode is players vs cpu so i can play co-op with my bro

online could be effin amazing - after playing the SP - if you team up with the right people.

This is the best video game experience I've ever had. And I grew up playing the Atari 2600, then the ZX Spectrum, NES, Amiga, Megadrive - you name it.

It's simply gorgeous. It's organic, addictive - just a pure joy to play.

It's made me realise that I couldn't care less about either PES or FIFA that much - THIS is gaming. It puts a smile on my face, it wows me.

Good stuff from Kojima, the Francis Ford Copella of gaming. Bravo, sir!

yeah makes you think how on earth could they ask for the same money for a game like this and etc that Godzilla game that came out this year. in a long time i would say this game worth every cent. it is 6-7 years in the making tho

The main missions definetly Warrant looking around as does getting a good interpreter early in the game as interrogating guards reveals the locations of rough diamond stashes, specialists and other goodies.

You always get two clear objectives with each mission but if you've been a eager beaver and plundered the map this saves alot of retreading as neighbouring villages or bases will have something there that factors into the mission.

In blind panic on one mission I swapped my standard issue rifle with suppressor for the enemies(I'd triggered a alert)...on leaving the area I heard the enemy saying stupid American and American rubbish on finding my rifle..since I've been stuck with the Russian issue rifle and no suppressor..I even went back taking the whole camp out with my bionic arm and tranquilliser pistol looking for it..

The enemy also adapts as the game goes on to counter the style you favour..as well as the game encouraging a less violent resourceful approach(it pays dividends)..although you can definetly get your gun off..

Just loving this!

I hate online gaming and have zero interest in it, but why the fuck do PC owners have to wait 3 months more than console owners for the mode? That's shitty.

For the kids of the 80s like myself..when you run and use the bionic arm the soundbite(sample)is the same as the million dollar man!.(pure gold)

Lol..its in the credits a lot!

More fan service and pampering his own ego(or anti corporation ie he is making sure the credit goes to who it should)..it makes me chuckle yet I quite like it...he does give credit to the other coders though!

I'm half considering buying that stupid f*cking Guide book, as it helped massively with Skyrim and Fallout, without actually spoiling too much for me.
