Boxing Talk!!

For me it was 100% his knee that made it a relatively easy fight for Cotto, Martinez had no mobility, no agility, his right knee being unresponsive like that is what left him open to the left hook so much, meant his own punches had next to no pop on them either.

That said, great performance from Cotto, seems to be back to something like his best, certainly the Cotto of a few years ago, be interesting to see who he fights next :)

Great performance by Andy Lee as well! Was getting comprehensively outboxed, looked like he and Adam Booth had made a terrible decision to drop him down a weight and choose this opponent, then booooom! 2nd fight was also really enjoyable and I'm glad the judges didn't ruin a great performance by giving it to the "home" fighter. Third fight sadly was rather poor.

Both Dibella and Martinez said it wasn't his knee. He just got caught and was on shaky legs ala Hatton after getting check hooked from Mayweather. Difference is Hatton went down and stayed down while Martinez got back up. I thought Cotto looked great. He now has some pretty good options. He can fight the Canelo/Lara winner, Golovkin or Quillin.

They can say what they like but they're talking bullshit. The knee was clearly messed up, he spent the whole fight on a leg that he could barely bend and thus lost all his agility and mobility.

After a second watch (First watch was at a rowdy fight party) I agree that Martinez was on bad wheels. Taking that into consideration Cotto did what he was supposed to. I give him credit for that. Moreover, I also give him credit for taking the fight. Both Manny and Floyd turned down the fight when Martinez offered to kill himself and go down to 150 pds. Granted this was a few years ago when Martinez was at his best so I understand why Manny and Floyd turned it down. Timing is everything in boxing though. Pac caught Dela Hoya at the right time when he fought him in 2008 and his stock went up despite the fact that Oscar was shell of his former self. Business wise, the best scenario I heard at the gym the other day from a trainer was for Canelo to beat Lara and then fight Cotto. The winner of that fight would then fight Mayweather in what would be the biggest rematch in the U.S. since Holyfield and Tyson.

That reminds me:

To greater protect your security and mine I've decided to enforce TLS encrypted connections which is a simple change of setting in Filezilla as in the pic below:

Yeah I have the HBO card now including the Andrade v Rose fight as well :)

It was a decent fight. Probably a 6.5 or 7/10 at best. To me the most memorable thing about the fight wasn't the result, it was the commentary. Kellerman and esp Lampley were terrible in their assessment. Lampley is still a puppet serving HBO's agenda and Kellerman is like a woman that can't make a decision. Thank the stars for Andre Ward though. The guy is brilliant on commentary and might even be better than Paulie with his pre and post fight analysis.

Showtime card is about an hour or so away:

Robert Guerrero (31-2-1) vs Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1)

Gary Russell, Jr. (24-0) vs Vasyl Lomachenko (1-1)
vacant WBO featherweight title

Devon Alexander (25-2) vs Jesus Soto Karass (28-9-3)

Great fights last week, they were all really enjoyable watches

There is a Sky card up in Scotland tonight. There is plenty of needle between Stephen Simmons and Wadi Camacho, they've been at each other's throats since the first press conference and things got a bit heated in the weigh in yesterday. Let's hope it doesn't disappoint

Here's hoping, Willie Limond fights ex-footballer Curtis Woodhouse, Simmons fights and also Ricky Burns.

In the absence of football tonight, it'll do the job.

That was a really good Showtime card. Worth checking out all the fights.

Gary Russell, Jr. (24-0) vs Vasyl Lomachenko (1-1)
vacant WBO featherweight title 7/10

Devon Alexander (25-2) vs Jesus Soto Karass (28-9-3) 7/10
Chad Dawson vs. George Blades, 10 Rounds, Light Heavyweight 5.7/10
Dominic Breazeale vs. Devin Vargas, 10 Rounds, Heavyweight 5.5/10

The Sky Scotland card was a decent watch last night

Quite surprised at Ricky Burns he just couldnt get going and made stupid mistakes. The Montengran kid looked decent though, good punch to knock Burns down in the first

Woodhouse vs Limond fight was decent, well deserved win. And the Simmons Camacho rivalry put to rest with Camacho running out of steam at the end

Crawford vs Gamboa should be a decent fight tonight, similar records, both unbeaten, nice!

Indeed. Been a long time since Nebraska has a held a notable title fight. I think the last time was Joe Frazier, but I can't remember who he fought.

Suppose it's not bad. I would have liked to have seen Floyd against a new opponent not sure who though. He seems to be running out, with all that goes off in America with Sho-Time and HBO and who can fight who it gets a little confusing!

Personally I found the first fight very entertaining :)

Porter has looked very impressive and Kell hasn't ever impressed me, wouldn't be shocked to see Porter destroy Kell.

Big test for both Canelo and Lara. This is Lara's 1st big PPV event. Will he have jitters or stay composed and box? Canelo is a star attraction and it will be hard for Lara to get a decision against him in Vegas. Lara has to put a on clinic to win IMO. I don't see this as a knock down drag out fight of the year war like some are predicting. I think Canelo takes it by disputed decision or late tko. Not betting on this one.

Canelo v Lara:

Personally I'd score the fight as a 2 point win for Lara, however I must be one of the few who doesn't have a problem with the 117-111 score either, Lara fought very negatively throughout, he ran throughout, if a judge sees that as grounds for not giving him close rounds (of which the majority were very close) then that's fine with me.

It was a pretty good and interesting fight. I also scored it to be a Lara win but only by 1 point

Sky Fight Night is worth a watch too, some decent fights on there

Things are getting interesting between Bellew and Cleverly. Could definitely see Bellew getting the better of him in a rematch

I had it down as a draw or Lara by one. Didn't have a problem with decision as fight was super close in terms of each round and scoring what you like.
