FIFA 20 Discussion (Console Versions)

New consoles will release around Christmas of 2020.
The new football games are released around late August-September.
So the 21 version for football games will release before the new consoles, meaning that we will probably won't see a next gen version until Fifa-Pes 22.

This is not true.
Everyone knows that EA are famous for having a bunch of sports titles ready for launch or days after new consoles launch.
Now quality of these games are nutritiously bad or they lack the last gens content but however they will definitely have a FIFA and a Madden etc ready to go at launch.

if you don’t believe me look at every recent console launch date and compare to first FIFA date almost identical

This is just research, I'm pretty sure this hasn't made it into the game yet. See the last four slides.
I thought it was fascinating to see - bearing in mind the guy works for EA - that A) they reference a fan-made YouTube comparison video someone made, comparing the animations in FIFA 19 to PES 19, and B) one of the slides references "floaty" feeling animations.

Seems like they're aware of the issues...

The PS4 did have a "next gen" on launch or shortly afterwards, however Frostbite is here to stay and the only thing I can imagine is the PS5 version might have enhanced visuals to look the same as the PC version on Ultra.

The main thing I am hoping for like a lot of people is the next gen bringing better AI, at the moment this is sometwhere FIFA really suffers.
Every skill level increases in difficulty as the CPU cheats more, as you move up the skill levels the CPU just becomes super accurate with passes and every shot pretty much goes in.

Just found my new favourite thing in FIFA 20..
It's better than Sex Panther - 90% of the time it works every time.*

*Only works with good teams, anyone with a fast striker in the Prem should do.
If you play with auto shooting and not manual - You should score every time.

Haven't played this game since pretty the release week.
Absolutely hated it,think I claimed it being the worst ever then.
Had two separate EA access trial versions,so I pretty much played 10-15 hrs of it.

But I bought the full version earlier today (60% off),seen quite a few YT videos on career mode lately and they looked pretty good.

Gotta say it's a pretty good game now, miles better than FIFA 19.
Not loving the CPU defending though, way to soft, but being on the ball is really good, huge difference from 19 in that regard

Only started a player career in Stuttgart (Zweite Bundesliga) since o don't want to invest to much time in case it was shit.
But I'm surprised how good it plays, even though there's issues of course.
Operation sports sliders with some customisation, pending between WC/LEG/ULT and 10-15 min games semi passing/shooting.
Probably setting up a proper career later on.
Really pleased with this so far

I feel like animation is something they will improve especially in the next FIFA title. FIFA has always been a flashy game. They might not care about gameplay depth but in order to make cool looking in game trailer, they will need to improve the animation blending, IK foot-planting and the locomotion system in general.

9/10. Best football game since PES 6.
Without sliders I think it's a 7 at best, the pace of it online is an actual joke (yet FUT players on Twitter cry that it's too slow - they don't want FIFA to be a football game, they want it to be an arcade button-smasher and you can't make a sim AND please those guys at the same time).

With sliders, it's an 8 for me. The floatiness needs to go, the AI needs to play like a human and the physics are still mental (power headers from the edge of the box FFS, sorry but it can't be a 9 while that still happens).

Well defending is an odd one in this game right?
Feels like my players are all over the place, and being in broadcast cam makes angles and stuff even harder.
Just got beat by Heidenheim in my Zweite Bundesliga career 4-1

Guarantee Fifa 21 on next-gen consoles will look insanely better this year. Obviously in the future they'll be improved, but with the power they have to play with this time around is like night and day compared to PS4 and XB1 at release. Even back then those consoles were considered weak.

EA will be working on the usual Fifa 21 game for current-gen, but they'll be making the other ready in time for the November release of the new consoles. They'll be developing Fifa 21 on the next-gen dev kits right now. It's not going to just receive a patch update like Xbox X

Really looking forward to ray-tracing in effect as well as potentially massive new features that will be shown off. Remember, it's games like Fifa that push people to buying new consoles, so they'll be going all out with bells and whistles everywhere.

Also EA have stated last year that in future years there will be big changes coming to career mode..so if you're into that, then it sounds exciting. Next-gen sounds like a fresh start.

I can't wait for E3 and beyond!

I took advice from another forum To disable move assistance and set jockey to manual. It has helped me in defense. I'm having trouble defending as well but this helped. Also don't sprint so much, try to cover gaps instead

Cheers mate, yeah I've come to terms with it,big difference from previous games, plus I've gone back to Tele broadcast from broadcast cam, helps a lot!
Operation sports right?
Think I've read it there as well.
Thanks for your help bro

Interesting ...

"From Motion Matching to Motion Synthesis"

In FIFA 20 they used machine learning to improve the animations.

Fifa animations are in part motion-capture and in part manipulated by algorithms for many many years now. This is why fifa wins when it comes to variety (but on the flipside suffers from many glitches & unnatural movement). I guess the machine learning/neural network part is just newer tech.

Neural Networks/Machine Learning is awesome, but i'd be more excited if they could use it to train the AI. We now have neural networks that can beat humans in Go, I'm sure they can manage AI that can play football somewhat convincingly. Maybe parking the bus when winning like they did years ago. 😆

Ultimately, there's no technology that will produce a realistic football game if the will to produce a realistic football game is not there in the first place.

Maybe you're right and we'll have a next gen Fifa 21,we'll see.If that's the case i hope they won't neglect the pc version like in the past with Fifa 14 and it will be on par also.

I'm more worry though that even if they'll have amazing hardware in their hands to work with and they could make a brilliant realistic game with great animations and physics, realistic weight and agility etc,it won't happen because online remains the number one priority and realism is not welcomed there. It's all about speed and agility and bullshit skill moves.

It's just annoying that you see these Fifa youtubers trashing great players and even icons like Scholes etc just because they're not quick or agile enough and they're not considered to be usable..or meta..man i hate this fucking word..It's all about pass the ball to wingers, run run run, pass it to the edge of the box, score.Or do some shitty skill moves, turning in light speed, score.Things like tactical awareness etc are not cosidered important enough. The important things are if they have 4-5 stars weak foot or 4-5 stars skill moves..
In real life you don't have to be super quick to be a great defender or midfielder.Other things like space awareness or positioning plays a huge part. But in the game and because of how it's built to be played all these don't matter as much as they should but instead it's all about speed and ridiculous agility and reactions etc..

So..they could bring ray tracing and great graphics and other bells and whistles as much as they want with the next gen.
But when it comes to actual gameplay and realism,i'm not very optimistic that we could see a huge difference for the better.
At least for what is considered better for people who want realistic animations, weight, agility, physics, fouls, physicality etc.A more sim version in general.
As long as most of the onliners prefer this run n gun ninja football, this will always be the priority sadly and it won't change just because of next gen.

Now quality of these games are nutritiously bad or they lack the last gens content
Well this is not always true. The Xbox One version of FIFA 14 (based on Ignite) is a very good game for example.

Maybe you're right and we'll have a next gen Fifa 21,we'll see.If that's the case i hope they won't neglect the pc version like in the past with Fifa 14 and it will be on par also.
It's not like they neglected it. The Ignite versions of the game came out in November IIRC, while the "old gen" ones based on Impact Engine were around since September.
I see the point in releasing Ignite-based games only when "Ignite-capable" consoles sere launched honestly.
Then, I thought we wouldn't even get an Ignite FIFA 15 for PC, but they proved me wrong luckily.

With the new way of defending(I like it) wouldn't be smart to have hum controlled players who aren't floaty as balloons?

And an improved player switching?
Plus having a smarter ai in defence before you switch over to them?

This game (defending) reminds me of Pes 19 ,the feeling of waking players up every time you switch over to them.
Hope FIFA takes a step forward slider wise, needs to find a balance within the ai controlled team, can't really find a decent balance between attackers being very sharp and defenders being a joke really.
A lot to like in this game, bit also a ton of bad stuff that really needed to be gone years ago.
Playing FIFA 17 and feeling that the balance is much better back then Vs now.

And hoping that FIFA with a new gen of consoles coming out suddenly will become a much better game, not really buying it.
Like someone said above, they really need to want to create a sim game don't they?

Well, EA SPORTS/DICE just hired GalaxyMan the Developer of the only tool that makes Modding for FIFA - and all EA SPORTS/DICE Games- possible. So they sure as hell pay attention to influencers and the different communities. They know all about us.
It wouldn't surprise me if, as you say, they change the game based on a few Youtubers feed back to them.

Well if that's the case and Fifa 21 will be released for new consoles, then we should expect an old gen pc version again like it was the case with Fifa 14.Couldn't they just release the game for all three platforms in November-December when the next gen consoles will arrive?
Why it has to be the pc version that has to be released earlier than the others and get an inferior version instead?
It's not like a pc is inferior to the consoles..A great pc is probably even better than these new next gen consoles that gonna release.
So it doesn't make any sense..It's just that they know that pc players are not as many as console players so if they're gonna fuck someone then they choose to fuck the pc players...Anyway...

I would be very surprised if the next gen get their own release this year, it will probably be the same as PC - Ultra Settings.
Then FIFA 22 will see a true next gen version, as the game is still going to use Frostbite.

And in regards to the next gen consoles, yes they will not be as powerful as a great PC, but how many PC players have a GFX card better than a 5700 or RTX 2060?
Unless your a PC Specialist I would say not many.
I know a few people who play the PC version on 1050Ti's which are much inferior to the next gen consoles - Only EA will know the actual % of what PC players game on, for as many people who have a 2060 or above, 3-5x the amount will be on less than a 5700.

Ultimately it's all about speed when it comes to online gaming, and it's a shame. That's why I only ever really play career mode. The new CPU's in these consoles will allow for way better AI, so maybe some advancements will come in better, overhauled gameplay...I hope.

Animations and physics should really be on the next level, but as it's more of an arcade game you really do feel that they're not going to suddenly change their philosophy after all these years. I do expect the same sort of game, but it just looking extremely nice on the eyes in a visual sense.

Do you think that also means next year FIFA modding is dead?

I reckon it's highly probable.
Although he did say two of his mates will take over the FROSTY TOOLSUITE Project from February 1st on, I have no idea how capable they are. If they're on the same level as GMan or not. And even if they are good, nothing guarantees that FIFA 21 won't change the inner system up to a point where it would no longer be possible to be modded. Galaxy Man said it himself just over 2 months ago, that it would take 5 minutes for EA to make FROSTY TOOLSUITE stop working right now. Just adding one line of code would destroy every progress that was made since FIFA 18, in terms of modding. And now they're taking the only guy that's been able to get understand the engine so much that he made one tool that reads any game developed with that engine? That's suspicious, to say the least.
My guess is that EA didn't want the bad publicity it would cause if they sent GMan a "Cease And Desist" letter. The backlash it would cause. So they did the next best thing: Offer him a job. Kill two birds with one shot.
