Forza Motorsport 3

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

Looking forward to this alot now.

Also delighted they've decided to show a difference on the leaderboards between people who use assists/no assists. That'll sort out some of the crap that annoyed me in 2.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

Excellent! Xbox Live Leaderboards too for the demo! Sounds awesome. Think it will work with steering wheel?

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

Forza 2 was decent gameplay wise but it had no sense of speed - the camera didn't shake and there was no motion blur even at very high speeds.
Add to that there was a very limited number of tracks, if both those things stay the same in 3, I can see myself getting bored of it like I did with 2...

However if they fix those things (add a sense of speed and loads of tracks), then it will be a great game.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

True Rob. I picked up Forza 2 the other day and the sense of speed thing is very apparent. You don't feel any real difference from flying down a straight, or turning round a hairpin corner.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

Sometimes the forget about one thing: game has to be fun. And in driving games sense of speed is the fun part.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

I always seemed to find myself flying into corners too fast because it didn't feel quick, so you had to keep doing laps around a track and find the braking points one by one instead of being able to do it instinctively...

rFactor is not really my sort of game (too realistic), but it combines a really good sense of speed with simulation gameplay, it is possible... It seems that at the moment only the really arcadey games on consoles have a sense of speed, PGR being the one exception.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

Turn on the track guide, thats what I do for the first load of laps on a track and you get to learn the track much quicker.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

wtf? is this a joke?

Whatever Jonney, you have picked Shift, so happy days, if you dont want to play Forza, or if that's the only hole you can pick in it's otherwise pretty impressive set of screenshots and videos so be it. There is alot of people looking forward to Forza.

Can't agree on that. I thought the sense of speed in Forza 2 was spot on. It is a simulation after all and most of the cars in the game are not as quick as F1 cars.

And I certainly don't want any hollywood motion blur effects.

I see where you're coming from...
It's just that a video game can't portray a sense of speed in the way it is in real life, i.e. g-forces and it being dangerous.

I'd rather have something to make it feel like you're going fast even if it's a bit unrealistic than have nothing.

I know what you're saying.

Don't know if you ever played Test Drive Unlimited (great game) but that game had a motion blur slider. I always had it set to zero, but at least it was customisable to your own tastes. They also had a 'camera shake' slider.

All racing games should do this.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

I had Test Drive Unlimited on PC, it was really good but ran like crap on my computer (was what made me initially want to switch to a console).

I wish all games would have loads of settings/sliders so we can adjust the game to our tastes, that's why I love the idea of gameplay sliders in sports games (like NBA 2K) and those motion blur/camera shake ones in TDU.

It's much better than having things one way where you have to like it or lump it..

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

Well most console games dont have such sliders. its because people want a pick up and play game, not to tweak settings all day long like how pc users do.

thats the point of console gaming, to make life "easier" for the user hench why a lot of settings are watered down/simplified for the masse's be grateful that games like fifa 10 allow you to customize the level of assist you want from a pass, shot or through ball.

That's bollocks.

You can still pick up and play NBA 2K9, never touch the sliders and really enjoy it. But the option is there for the more serious console gamers, which do exist, contrary to your generalisation that all console gamers are knuckle dragging plebs.

Yea their are some games that offer you that option but most dont.:))

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

For some reason I really don't like the screenshots, I just think "they're nowhere near the standard of Gran Turismo", but when I see the game in action I think it looks amazing. Weird.

Re: Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360)

Hench Johnney? Really?!

I think I'll pass on this, got quickly bored with the first one, especially as they would put the quickest driver at the front with me starting in 2nd (can't remember if you could qualify). It just meant that as long as you were quickest to the first corner the game would turn into a borefest of "not making mistakes". There was hardly any overtaking. I know it's a sim and all that but really it's like doing endless 12lap timetrails.

Also even playing more arcade racers I've found that I quickly lose interest, guess I'm past driving games in a way. Although saying that Im hugely looking forward to mod-racers with the track creation and hopefully Mariokart-esque online side.

In their preview, Edge wrote something similarly Chris...they claim that the screenshots don't do justice to the game when you played...they called it pure car porn...
