Halo 3 - Official Topic

With Halo 3 less than three months away, Bungie is beginning to lift the veil with a couple of big reveals this week. The first was a whole slew of post-beta screenshots and details, revealing two new multiplayer maps (remake of Zanzibar FTW), armor customization, and the brand new, super-fast Brute Chopper vehicle.

The second big Bungie revelation was the second publicly-released screenshot of Halo 3's single-player campaign. Seen above, the screen leaves a great deal to speculation. The stunning mountains mean that it's probably Earth, and the mysterious smoke on the far right may very well be where the survivors crash-landed on Lost (uh oh, spoiler alert!). What's for certain, however, is that Master Chief is looking damn fine in HD. Is it September yet?

Reminder: Bungie Day goodies on XBLM tomorrow

Tomorrow is Bungie Day for the Halo 3 developer, as they've celebrated every July 7 in recent memory. Since it will be 2007 (i.e. 7/7/07, or triple 7s), there is some "extra special content" coming to Xbox Live Marketplace, according to the developer's website, in addition to new content on Bungie.net itself.

As to what the goodies will be, exactly, Bungie isn't saying -- "don't get too excited, it's not Halo 3," said the newsbrief. We're predicting gamertag pictures, themes, and the like, of either Halo, Marathon or their long-running joke Pimps at Sea.

Regardless of what the content is, there's only a small window of opportunity, as the mysterious content will only be available from 5:00 am ET until 3:00 am on Sunday.

Agreed...total!

The Edge article is also extremely good, 12 pages of Halo3. The best line from the article is that they say how Halo 3 is the most assured title they have ever experienced. It sounds oh so promising.

Halo-themed Xbox 360 coming in Sept. for $399, wireless headset for $59.99
halo-3-360-console.jpg

Master Chief's coveted special edition 20GB Xbox 360, initially seen at Microsoft's E3 2007 press conference, is coming this September for $399.99, which is now $50 more than the Premium console. With that extra Ulysses S. Grant, you get an HDMI port, a headset, a Spartan green-and-gold finish (for console, controller and headset) and a Play and Charge Kit, according to the press release. The non-proprietary HDMI cable is sold separately.

Additionally, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has told us that the Halo wireless headset will be priced at $59.99 and will include some quality improvements over its predecessor. It will, presumably, also be deployed in September.

Halo 3 becomes the biggest preorder
Not Suprising even gas stations are taking Preorders.

As the countdown continues for the entertainment event of the year -- the launch of "Halo(R) 3" -- the video game continues to set records and establish new precedents for an entertainment launch. Today, Microsoft Corp. announced that preorders in North America for the exclusive Xbox 360(TM) title have exceeded the 1 million milestone. In addition, Microsoft unveiled the first exciting details of upcoming promotions from leading consumer brands, including Mountain Dew, 7-Eleven, Pontiac, Comcast and Burger King Corp. In a strategy utilized in other big entertainment launches, retailers around the world have begun taking preorders, enabling consumers to order one of the three versions of "Halo 3": Standard Edition, Limited Edition and the ultra-collectible Legendary Edition. In fact, demand has been so strong for the Legendary Edition of the game that it is expected to be sold out by the time the game launches on Sept. 25. Retailers have also noted that the presales for "Halo 3" are the fastest in video game history. "What we've experienced is nothing short of phenomenal," said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop Corp. "'Halo 3' has eclipsed many previous records and will prove to be one of the must-have items of 2007."

"The excitement for 'Halo 3' is incredible," said Jill Hamburger, vice president of movies and games at Best Buy. "From our preorders online and the buzz we're hearing in our stores, we know this release is going to be one of the biggest entertainment events of the year. We're thrilled to be able to bring it to our customers."

For the first time in video game history and on par with the scope of major movie releases, some of the world's biggest consumer brands have aligned to support the launch. Many plan to offer a variety of promotions that give consumers the opportunity to obtain unique "Halo 3"-branded products and prizes and participate in one-of-a-kind "Halo 3"-themed events.

"This September, 'Halo 3' will push video game entertainment into the forefront of mainstream culture," said Chris Di Cesare, director of creative marketing at Microsoft. "Teaming up with some of the world's strongest and most recognizable brands is trailblazing new paths and cementing video games as big entertainment on par with major event films, and is a testament to the excitement and anticipation intrinsically linked to 'Halo 3.'"

Mountain Dew will unveil the first beverage co-branded with a video game, Mountain Dew Game Fuel. Game Fuel has the same great taste of Mountain Dew with an invigorating blast of citrus cherry flavor and added caffeine for maximum intensity. Game Fuel will come in 20-ounce bottles, 2-liter bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans and will be available nationwide for a limited time starting Aug. 13, 2007.

7-Eleven today confirmed its plans to support the launch of "Halo 3" through a variety of in-store promotions, including three "Halo 3"-branded collectible Slurpee cups. In addition, 7-Eleven will run a "Halo 3" promotion with Mountain Dew Game Fuel and Doritos, with thousands of "Halo 3"-themed prizes, including, as grand prize, a chance to win a role as a voice actor in the upcoming Xbox 360 video game, "Halo Wars(TM)," by Ensemble Studios. In a few select markets, Mountain Dew will offer a special-edition aluminum bottle of Mountain Dew Game Fuel with an exclusive design created by Bungie Studios, the developers of "Halo 3." This bottle will be available in very limited quantities, making it a highly sought-after collector's item.

Pontiac will provide consumers with several exclusive "Halo 3"-related opportunities. It will host Pontiac Gamers Garage events in select locations, providing consumers with a chance to play the game for the first time before its release. In addition, in support of the launch of its upcoming high-performance G6 GXP Street, Pontiac will provide 1,000 consumers with a copy of the game, and one lucky gamer will win a limited-edition "Halo 3" G6 GXP Street car.

Burger King Corp. will continue its sponsorship of Xbox 360 with national, in-restaurant support from Sept. 24 through Oct. 22. "Halo 3"-themed packaging will offer customers access to exclusive content by logging on to http://www.bk.com/halo3 beginning Sept. 23. Graphics will be featured on select packaging, including the 42-ounce cup and King FRYPOD(TM).

Comcast has also joined the "Halo 3" campaign and will host exclusive video content, including user-generated movies and machinima, on its Web sites http://gameinvasion.net and http://www.ziddio.com. Comcast will also feature standard- and high-definition "Halo 3" videos on its signature ON DEMAND service.

"Halo 3" is also the official sponsor of the Projekt Revolution tour this summer, which includes bands Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. Exclusive "Halo 3" VIP events will take place in select cities on the tour, where attendees will receive "Halo 3"-themed merchandise and have an opportunity to meet the members of Linkin Park.

bnetweekly_flame.jpg

No longer confined to the shackles of Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC, the flamethrower is making its triumphant return in Halo 3. IGN has all the technical deets on this powerful "new" weapon, along with the unveiling of the mysterious fourth grenade -- now known as the fire bomb -- and it's pretty much what it sounds like: awesome.

Frankie took a break from the usual weekly banter and went with a Q&A format, revealing some interesting new tidbits regarding Halo 3. First off, the ladies have something to celebrate about this week as Frankie has confirmed that female Spartan voices are in for multiplayer. As for campaign news, the points and scoring system behind the single player meta-game will be explained before the game ships, so expect that sometime soon. Be sure to check out the update and see if any of your burning questions were answered.

Halo 3 Achievments.
It looks like the Halo 3 achievements have popped up over on the official Xbox site, I've posted pics of them all on the jump, but be warned, the names for the game's nine campaign missions are in there so don't look if that bothers you.

You can access the list here.

Edit: I have removed the images incase someone doesn't want any spoilers. (LemonJelly)

I think the last level being called "Master Chief dies a horrible, horrible death" is a terrible thing

I hope this game helps raise sales of Xbox 360, with games like Bioshock, Mass Effect and Alan Wake coming Xbox 360 doesn't deserve these poor sales.

How can anyone compete with this game when you listen to the Sad fanboys and girls screaming in the background pathetic

We get it, you wont be playing Halo, thank fuck really, but forget the whole slagging the game off while posting info in the thread. Post the info and leave it, if you dont like the game or the series, move on and leave the thread alone and someone who does like the game and the series will post relevent news.

It's a great series, and really it hasnt done alot wrong so far, and many games have stripped pieces from it so far. As for this game, it will change MP FPS console gaming again. Be it the fully customisable optiosn to the 4 player Co-Op.

Move along embrace if you want to slag it before playing it.

Re: Sony PlayStation 3

Sony's tampering with Halo 3's Wikipedia has made me lose even more confidence!

Eh? Why exactly? WHat about the stunts MS and Sony pulled at their launches? (The boat in France, and offering chairs to fans queueing outside for a midnight launch) It's just the way things work these days and if something like trying to get an edge over a competitor like this is enough to put you off then ... wow. You're easily influenced it seems.

Re: Sony PlayStation 3

They should be, half people who bought the original Xbox bought it just for the Halo games.

I think Halo 3 is just what Xbox 360 sales needs!
